Some success at last...
Found two candidates for music players that seem to work pretty well in a car environment. Both Rocket Player and Mort Player are showing promise, worth trying. |

Sorry for the delay in getting an answer... but I've seen a lot of 'oddities' along the way so wanted to be sure before I gave a definitive answer.
In short the answer is yes and it works very well. First between the two apps, Rocket Player seems to work much better in my view and is more configurable. Steering wheel controls work properly again. However to get to that point, I had to do the following.
I did not find a good car-ready app for navigation. Igo Primo is nice to use, but its navigation is rather hit and miss. Google Maps does a very good job with both traffic and navigation, but is not car-friendly (has small buttons etc). I may yet experiment with CoPilot and so on. I've also been using Car Dashdroid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...droid&hl=en-GB This puts a very nice car-friendly interface to the whole unit with big button shortcuts to your main apps. I liked it so much I've even spent the £2 or so to remove the ads and unlock some features on the free version. Well worth checking out. Last edited by BigAde; 26th April 2017 at 12:45.. |

Sure.... forgive the screen reflections on the photos... it was taken in bright daylight.
This is the main screen of Car Dashdroid... I've set it to auto-launch on boot and on pressing the home button, so in effect it replaces the main user interface while driving. It was originally designed to run on Android phones, so some features such as the digital speedometer, text-to-speech for text messages and voice commands I've not really got working yet... it could be that they just won't work as it's expecting to be running on a device with a SIM card. I've sent an email to the developer in the hope they may be able to confirm this. The below is the second screen of car dashdroid... I've added a few shortcuts of my own in here.. For info this is the album selection screen of Rocket Player... And this is the view in Rocket Player while playing: Last edited by BigAde; 27th April 2017 at 08:13.. |
