I get the effect when photographing flying insects, I think it helps give the impression of the wings beating.

Long exposure on water can produce interesting effects also. Here it gave a milky waterfall and a glassy surface to the pool using a 13 sec exposure. A car went past on the bridge behind the brick building and you can just make out a ghostly trail on the bridge.

One from last night in Portishead. 60 second exposure. Shame the clouds wern't moving more, gives a better dramatic effect.

There is a reasonable coastal pathway to it but I don't believe you can get a car close by as the adjacent houses and road are all on gated private property.

I parked close to the Portishead Sailing club and the walk was less than 1/2 a mile.

There is quite a steep hill as you move inland which I would expect would make any radio work very directional towards the north and west.

Awesome photographs!
I love the traffic and the water shots.

I have just tried another with my watch...

I have a question, when shooting with long exposure, with the light meter perfectly centralised and using a tripod, with an exposure longer than about 4-5 seconds I get a lot of distortion. What could be causing that?
I'm using the shutter mode on a timer so I am not actually touching the camera when it takes the picture, so I know the camera is not moving...

Any ideas?

When you say distortion, do you mean movement? If so, it could be mirror slap or movement caused by the shutter. Also do you extend the head pillar of the tripod? Is the tripod heavy enough to deal with the camera?

Hi,
The image becomes blurred, so like camera shake.
There is a hook under the tripod so I will hang a weight from it and see if it improves the situation.

I have tried both with and without the head extended.
If it is the mirror causing it, what can I do?
