I don't think there is any need for that comment, I am in fact having the belts done on my car next month, the OP's question was about finding the date on the belt, I made a suggestion, that's all.

Just remember the date on the belt will be manufacture date - not fitting date. Best way to turn the engine would be to use the starter motor - just pull the fuses for the fuel pump to prevent it starting....

I've already seen my belt says Rover on it, how long did Rover make belts? I've been told you can still get them as new stock, not new old stock?

True, but at least the belt must have been fitted after that date, how much after is the 64 dollar question😉

That is true - I remember seeing someone post the shelf life of belts recently and IIRC it was 10 years and 6 in service. what I'm not sure of is is a 9 year old belt got 1 year in service life or 6, considering that it only has 1 more year life on the shelf and being in an engine is a lot harder on it? Partly why I always think that the best thing to do is to carry out a belt inspection at annual service - including an assessment for damage, wear, and stretch.

You wont be able to tell by looking, anyway its rarely the belts that give out, its the tensioner that lets go.

Dayco were the original supplier, and involved in the cam drivebelt development of the KV6 engine with Rover.

Don't know who made the Rover boxed belts in your link, but Gates are recommended on the forum by people in the know.
