Ok, will run the engine tomorrow and will stand outside and listen out for the fan to see if it turns on and off.. naturally the fan inside the car works a treat and aircon all great, just the fan in the engine is the worry. (ps: I am sadly no expert with the correct terminologies, so please be gentle)

No problem. We all have to start off somewhere.

I can't imagine what the "gauzy thing" is. Can you post a photograph looking through the grille on the bonnet?
You also say that the fan runs continuously "as usual" yet when you started this thread you reported that it was turning on and off. There's no point in running the engine and standing outside to listen for it turning on and off. The correct test to do is as I posted earlier, using the 'demist' button from a cold start and the fan should start almost immediately. Once the engine has warmed up the test becomes unreliable. I hope that makes sense.

Turned on engine From cold and demist is turned on. Fan comes straight on and stays on. Here is a picture of the grille... It's just opaque through it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1373713203.671883.jpg

are you able to get home? presume you are in the AA/RAC.

Great Chart is not far from Bexhill, so it is worth seeing if you can get the car down to Sean at Just 75s / everything Rover. he is no longer a trader on Here but still trading elsewhere and a top bloke.

Sorry, I haven't been following too much - but if you bought from a Dealer - take it back.... To fix, or a refund!
