Cheers Ken, The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300 donkeys years old. Now as to plugging a screen in. Is it as easy as that or do I need to change some settings or something like that?

To make a duel screen connection on a windows 7 machine, you could follow this, it`s easier than me writing it down:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976064

If you shop around you might find another screen , most places I looked at were "out of stock" or "unavailable" some on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nk...+screen&crdt=0

If you do manage to get one this is a little guide to doing a new fit:
http://www.laptopinventory.com/Lapto...piron/9300/LCD

You might be easier searching for a used laptop that`s working and just swapping the hard drive.

Thanks Ken.

Got me old monitor and plugged it in and turned laptop on. Picture came up no problem.

Dead chuffed.

Thanks again Ken

Now I know it's the screen I can get one in my own time.

Won't be a cheap panel, 17" LCD, rather than modern LED type.

Happy to help you Al, nothing worse than the thoughts of not able to access your files, well perhaps there are but you know what I mean.
