Rain sensor retrofit help
Hello all,
I have recently acquired an auto dipping rear view mirror from ebay. It actually turned up complete with the rain sensor for auto wipers!. It is my understanding that if this is fitted to the windscreen and plugged in to the wiring loom, the car will recognise it and I'll have autowipe. Now the problem is... there is no wiring plug for it under the interior light housing, am I right in thinking that if I can provide a suitable loom, this would connect to a plug hidden at the bottom of the R/H A piller post under the trim? And if so, does anyone know the correct pin outs? Many thanks Paul |

you need a rain sensor windscreen. my car should have rain sensors but whoever had the car before me had the screen replaced with a normal one i only found this out when it was plugged into a t4 so i assume if you want the rain sensor you will need a screen and a t4 session or just order some normal covers from rimmers

Dissy1810 is correct you'll need a windscreen with the prism fitted, as well as having the ZCS codes on the car altered so that the BCU will recognise that the auto wiper system is fitted otherwise it won't work.
T4 cannot do this normally and the process of inputting the new codes is not straight-forward or without risk. I can do this, but the car not only has to be diagnostically sound but any coding work such asthis is carried out at the owners own risk. Russ

You don't need a new windscreen, if you can source the prism seperately, it can be attached to the regular screen, the only difference is the rain sensor screen has a blacked out area, this could be added by having automotive black vinyl cut and placed on the inside of the screen for cosmetic reasons.
However, I'm not pursueing it for the above mentioned reasons, adding code etc.. just going with the auto dipping mirror. Thanks for the replies Paul |
