Dmf tolerances
How is the free play on my cdti dmf checked please?
Do I simply by hand move them in opposite directions and measure the difference at the ring rear? Cheers Jon |

There should be two white paint marks adjacent to each other on the inner and outer masses of the DMF - the inner part is the central ring with 8 bolt holes in it. The two marks are at about 10 o'clock on the attached picture. Twist the two masses (outer/inner) against each other, and the white marks should not move more than 25mm (about one inch) apart. More than 25mm, and you have excessive play in the DMF.
In reality, it is rare for the DMF to fail on these cars - if you do want another one, the one in the picture is actually for sale (only done 39,000 miles - well within spec. with much less than 25mm play). Pete |
