Thumbs down BT they having a laugh?

I need a new phone line into the business and called BT today, now this company supposedly specialises in 'communications'

First call 10 minutes to get to a human and then once speaking the line drops or is deliberately cut off as the guy taking my enquiry certainly sounded like it was far too much hassle for a Monday morning.

Second call, the same as the first but a different person answers.

Third call I get the first guy again, he puts me on hold and that was that left me there until I hung up.

Fourth call, like I have plenty of time for all this in giving them my business, my money, I finally speak to someone who has some ability only to be told lead time between 4-6 weeks.

No wonder business is booming and no recession

Its because BT (at least BT Openreach) is still a monopoly and as such have no reason to care about you.
I had this issue when moving house, it took them 3 months to connect our line, which still wasnt working properly for 2 weeks afterwards. Our line is through Sky, but everything is done by Openreach so Sky are powerless to help. Sky didnt charge us anything until our line was working, so they lost out to.

BT are appalling to deal with. My company provides IP based phone systems and so far we've managed to take quite a lot of business from BT just because our clients are fed up dealing with them. Downside is that when I'm migrating clients line I have to deal with them which is one of the bane's of my life It took me 20 minutes of talking to an Indian call centre the other day just to sort out an address problem for a client!

Never had a problem with BT in over 30 years.. had faults all cured within a couple of days (Faults usually occurring on a Friday night or on a Saturday).

Moved house several times and all transfers done smoothly and on the day of the move - including internet connection....

Maybe it's another post-code lottery ?

I think there is an element of postcode lottery, however no matter where you live you have to go through their foreign call centres which are awful. That said it could be worse, I've done a lot of work in Houston which meant dealing with Comcast and AT&T and they made BT look amazing, such was the level of their incompetence. I helped to move a branch office from one location to another about 2 miles away (I was dealing with the IT and telecoms) and finally managed to get AT&T to connect the new phones 2 days after we moved, they came in the following morning to find the new phones dead as they'd moved then back again

Still not a great fan of BT though, they need to stop abusing the virtual monopoly they still have on the network in this country.

When we had the garage (Executive Motoring Services) we were unfortunate enough to have BT who without writing an essay were about as usefull as a chocalate teapot!!

We then used a third party company called UNICOM who promissed lower bills etc but when there was a fault the service was even worse as BT told us we had to deal with Unicom as they supplied us & Unicom told us to go through BT.........

Are the problems for a physical new phone line 'including telegraph pole if required' as i doubt if there's any profit at all if just supplying a line for one phone. But BT have to do it as they have this government forced monopoly which no other company wants.

Yes, not Unicom but another company, who provided the phone system and lower cost calls. The same story
It seemed to be the stock answer to blame the other party. In the meantime the phones being down was costing £sssssss to the business
Maybe it has improved now, that was a few years ago.
