Corrosion Ahoy - When Last Did You Inspect Your Rear Suspension Arms
No this is not something dug up recently from a car park in Leicester.
Removed from a low mileage Year 2000 CDT Cowley car. RGG104972 N/S Arm assembly-upper rear suspension - LH RGG104962 O/S Arm assembly-upper rear suspension - RH The nearside wheel bracket was the worst and was bent so much at an angle that the tyre was rubbing against the inner wheel arch. The O/S was well on its way to collapse. |

Did Rover use the same paint on these arms as they used on the original Mini subframes?

Probably expired around October 2012, so only a 4 or 5 months ago. worrying yes, as it had obviously been through the MOT with this corrosion for some time ! The last owner had the car for about 9 years and would not have been using a dodgy MOT place to get it done. It's a small rural community up here and any suspect MOT stations would stick out like a sore thumb and they would soon be shut down if they thought they could get away with it.

EEk!!
That just doesn't happen in single MOT cycle , quite a few years more like !!! The car must have had a ( friendly ) MOT or two of late !! Had some time by the seaside maybe ? Even my 32 year old Fiat had no rot there when I sold it ?? But defin another area to monitor though! C.

An old Faaaarmers car with a tonne of mud on the underside. But kept indoors every night of it's life. No ECU damage at least. He really liked his car, but as with everything it reaches an economic crossroads, hence where I step in. Ironically this sprightly 83 year old bought a year or two old Audi vorspung dirt technic and within 17,000miles had to fit a new clutch at cost of £1,200. and no he didnt burn it out. He would put some younger fellows to shame at half his age. |
