Default Castrol Actevo Recall

This could prove important for any derv owners running 2-stroke oil:

http://www.castrolmoto.com/en/recall.php

Affected batch codes - 126486, 135401, 150755

How to find the batch code:

Castrol is voluntarily recalling one litre bottles of Castrol oil used in two stroke engines due to water contamination. The contamination in some bottles may potentially be sufficient to cause engine seizure. The affected products and the batch numbers are listed below and were on sale from 3 September 2012. The products are mainly used in motorcycles or small scooters, but can also be used in other equipment with two stroke engines.

I can confirm that at least one of my bottles (I bought 5) from Asda was in the affected batch. I'm going to cease using the other bottles for an couple of months until I know they have not recalled them.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news if you have affected bottles.

Not entirely sure how I return it, as I didn't keep the receipt...

.

At a mixture of 200:1 I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem,
probably get a small amount of water in diesel due to condensation
from the fuel station anyway? Please correct me if I'm wrong..

It isn't going to cause an issue when used in a diesel as any water will be caught by the filter.

On a oil injected 2 stroke however it could easily kill the engine.

Popped into Asda today and asked the question about returning the contaminated 2T even though i have not now got the receipt, good news i was told bring it in and we will scan it and it will tell us about the recall and if it was sold from here from the bar code so will be taking it back one anyway as i added water to the other one i had used to see its effect picks below.

I doubt that it as been contaminated with as much water as i dropped into the amount i had left in one of the bottles.

Poured out and i can see no water contamination Fig 1/2

Adding the water to see its reaction to the 2T oil Fig 3

Here with the water added you can see the water is lying at the bottom in circles Fig 4/5

From photo one when i first poured out the so called contaminated 2T you can not see by the human eye if it is contaminated or not so as stated i doubt it will do any harm to our diesel cars, but i will not be using it again once bitten twice shy comes to mind, good job i bought Asda own brand at the same time Arctic
