Rover 214 Sli....
Was originally helping the elderly owner sell this car when they started getting some very insulting offers locally. She was having no luck, silly offers, traders who wouldnt take it against a new car and all sorts.
The final straw was a foreign national who came, took the car a test drive for 5 hours and brought it back and said they didnt want it after putting 80 odd miles on the car and leaving an empty KFC in it. She finally contacted me and the car was sold to me for £200 after I sold my xenon ki on this forum. 1995 Rover 214 SLi with less than 36k miles on her, single owner from new when it was a demo car for Lough's of Lisburn Rover before that for about 6 months. And the really sad part, spent about three hours doing the engine bay the night before as I wanted it spotless lol! Condition is excellent, these cars rust like you would not believe makes a Ford Ka seem seaworthy tbh. Also the numbers are dwindling massively on the SLi specifically. Just did how many left, from 1995 which was end of prodcution replaced by the "bubble 200" mid 1995, there where a total of 91475 on the uk roads taxed, now its down to 1755 on the road, and 544 sorn! Dropped an average of 200 less cars every 3 months since 2008! At this rate I might have a very very rare care within two or three years! And a few other Rovers from the day! Its been keeping me comfortable and sane until I feel good enough to continue the v6 engine swap.

Looks like an amazing example of an increasingly rare car! My parents had a 214 GSI, and 216 GSI at one point when I was very young.

What stunning condition it is in.
Hard to believe nobody wanted it for a reasonable price

How low were these insulting offers if you were happy to take it off her for £200?

I want that!!!!!
I had an N reg 214SEi with half leather etc, my favourite and best car to date! It went like a rocket, I remember overtaking a Vauxhall Senator on Porlock Hill. 1/4 gradient. I was doing 60 at the top.

Ive acquired a "boot lip" spoiler, a set of -30mm springs simply due to fact its cheaper to buy the four than a single OEM and im holding out for a set of the 7 star style Rover R8 Lattice series rims

But I have to STRONGLY disagree with you on the rust comments. My 214Si, which is now 21 years old has only ever rusted where there is obvious stone chip damage, mostly on the edge of the sill in front of the rear wheel. The one thing I've always thought of the R8s is how little they rust compared to their rivals at the time. Similarly, my 1995 220 Turbo Coupe only has one patch of rust, where someone has botched a dent to the N/S quarter panel caused by a minor accident. My 2005 ZT has a very small patch of rust just above the sill finisher on the front O/S wing caused by a stone chip. Please find me a 21 year old Ford Escort which has lived outside and been used basically everyday which has as little to no rust. I think you'll struggle personally. |
