Rover 75 CDTI 2005 Saloon, Smart nav fitting
Hi all
Having just bought my rover 75 I dedided to look into retro fitting some sort of sat nav into the car, after searching on ebay for all the various parts to install the OE system with the disk system, I came across the smartnav system. after researching this system on the web I decided to go down this route. Having purchased the system on ebay as a brand new item with all instuctions and in a box, I went about fitting, not easy without a wiring diagram. I've got all the hardware fitted and conected the 5 wires from the button to the ECU and the two grey wires to the speaker, the black wire to earth that leaves me 4 wires. One red which I assume is a live, one purple, one white and one gold colour, the system doesn't have the touch screen yet although i am looking to get one. Can anyone help with four wires left and where they should connect to? I have searched the web thoroughly and can't find the answer, this is how I came across the owners club, I wasn't aware of a club for newer cars I used to belong to the Triumph 2000 - 2500 Register back in the late 80s and early 90s. Hi Bazzer,
I have Smartnav in mine, but never used it due to it needing a subscription and I use satnav about 6 times a year. As far as I am aware there is no touch screen, it uses voice only and commands are spoken to you once the central station know your destination. On my Rave diagram it's as follows 4 wires from switch to ecu, 2 to speaker, 2 to microphone, earth and 2 feeds from fuse's 9 and 11 in the passenger fuse box. It also mentions a GPS-1 and GSM-1 antenna. The wires in my diagram are different colours to what you mention. If you require it I can scan and send the diagram I have to you, but I don't think it will help much. Good luck Alan. |

The touch screen is optional and costs about £200. I will look at my installation instruction later and find out the colours (there are some wires that aren't used) Is the controll box a square item with opening front section or a rounded cornered sealed unit?

Smart Nav Installation
Hi All thanks for great welcome
It would appear from the responses that there are possibly two different models of the smart nav. Mine is the one with the lift up flap on one edge, I should be able to manage the remaining wiring following the info from you all, Could the extra wires be for the optional touch screen? I will let you know the results as I plan to try and sort it this weekend. I intend to opt for the pay as you go deal that Traffic master offer, 89p per route as I won't use the directions side often enough to warrant the subscription cost. Does anyone use the speed camera detection with it and is it any good, and is it worth the annual subs? Thanks for every ones help Barry |

If it has the lift up flap it is the earlier of the two systems. The touch screen connecter fits into the spare pins where the power connecter fits. Did you get an 02 sim card with the kit? If so you need to fit it into an 02 phone and wait a few minuites and make sure you don't receive any text messages before fitting into the holder in the controll unit.
The speed camera location is quite good but not sure how much extra it costs. Last edited by sworks; 18th March 2008 at 21:04.. Reason: more info |
