My wife drives an SUV because she likes them, I don't as it happens but that's by the by. You posted something mentioning 'fat gut SUV women' and I thought you could have phrased it better. Perhaps my reply was a little sharp but the basic point to it is valid - not according to you however and it's you that has chosen to escalate it because apparently you can't be wrong. Whatever, stick up your pipe and smoke it.

Our cars yes, but like I say, newer cars now have lost that function and you get an obligatory 3 flash lane change indication. It can be defeated by putting the indicator on full, (no half pressure thing), and then immediately turning it off again, but that is easily translated into confusing indication should you not get it right, and basically a pain to have to do.

As for mini-roundabouts...
Well, I do have arguments with my wife about these sometimes. Obviously on a regular roundabout we look right to check it's clear to enter the roundabout (and I prefer to make sure I can also proceed to get off the roundabout, hate drivers who plug up busy roundabouts). But at the mini donut ones you often find 3 cars arrive at virtually the same time, so there is no car technically ON the roundabout, who has right of way ? Theoretically you would all sit there forever for you should give way to the right. Wifey says no, get on the 'empty' roundabout, me, I say be defensive, judge if anyone else is going to make the first move before doing my own manouver. Never had instruction on these things when I was taught to drive, what do people reckon is the right approach (excuse the pun ) ? |

A pet hate of mine is when members on here start having a go at each other when there should be a separate thread of "I Hate You" for those comments. I then have to read the rants to see if there is anything actually useful in them. The sad thing is that the people involved are exceptionally good at posting constructive and informative comments.

Diesel spillages!!!!
People what don't put the fuel cap back, especially truckers, who then proceed to throw diesel all over the road. Not that big an issue in the car as you can straddle to spill so you don't slip off the road and die, but on a bike, it's lethal! When it is a msity, misserly, bleurgh day where everything gets damp and horrible but it isn't rain, it just makes the road worse than ice. I much prefer hard rain that washes the road clean than that rubbish. Yes, it's more a bike thing than a car thing, but it is highly annoying. |

Yesterday I was about to overtake a cyclist who, without checking behind him or making a signal, swerved into the middle of the lane to avoid a pothole. I think it was instinct on his part, but it was a poor manoeuvre that might have led to him being hit. Sent from my HTC Desire 626 using Tapatalk |

People who don't turn off rear fog lamps - even when the visibility is several miles !!!!
Oh, and people who insist on using them as rear "rain" lights as soon as they see a few spots on their windscreen !!! |

Guilty as charged as I have an automatic. I will in future try to remember and put it in neutral, handbrake on. By the way I don't (or try not to) drive at night as I can't stand HiD headlights or Zenons when not adjusted. HiD's are the worst especially on 4 x 4's as the headlights are high up and they always blind me when hitting even the slightest bump. I think they should be banned. Utility vehicles or hiD's, don't mind which.

Hi,
As a newbie here but with several decades of motoring on 2 wheels (both boy powered and petrol powered) and 4 wheels I'm loving this thread so thought I'd add my twopenneth. I'll agree with pretty much everything already mentioned. My pet hate at the moment - although it's a bit off topic - is coming back down the M1 from the north east. In some sections there's 4 lane running with new overhead gantries/signals. It's usually 8PM or so and time after time there's a "Workforce in Road" sign, then speed restrictions and lane closures. Unfortunately there absolutely no sign whatsoever of any workforce. No vehicles, no orange flashing lights, no cones, no people, no hi-viz, nothing. Now maybe there're getting ready or are on their way but this goes on for miles and miles and miles. I thought the idea of the new signals was for "real time" information? The trucks take absolutely no notice whatsoever. So the scenario is a line of trucks in Lane 1 doing 60 and a line of cars in Lane 4 doing 50. IMHO that's dangerous. Please, please, please motorway traffic control if there's something to tell us do so, if there isn't then don't because if creates a "cry wolf" mentality and then there will be carnage at some point and who would have thought it! With all the erm..."questionable" driving styles out there I've fitted both front and rear dashcams in the car (thanks for the instructions & pics ). It's quite interesting to see the reactions of a tailgater when they actually notice the camera and invariably back off . I think there's a bigger social issue around the perceived "right" to do what I want, how I want and when I want and tuff for anyone else. The lack of effective enforcement just helps that view along. Fortunately there are those that buck this trend and I've already read of many friendly, selfless actions by members on here - thank you for restoring my faith in people. As a former motor racing marshal one of the pearls of wisdom from the more experienced was: You're in a great deal more danger when the accident comes to you. Be defensive and safe - collisions hurt. All the best. Andy. Last edited by AndyN01; 14th July 2017 at 11:30.. |
