A Car Audio friend and myself looked at these and other MGR, BMW, and Mercedes units, but at present have to much work on.
Mainly Sat Nav system repairs.
When his workshop has caught up again and not over run with installs will post up.
Damp has caused many repairs.

I am now too tied up in other areas to continue repairs myself, I'm afraid.

The CDC uses the left hand side bottom connector [White].
The CDC wires go to pins 2 [common ground], 8 CDC Left+ and 9 CDC Right+.
The pin numbering as in my post above.
On a BMW adapter cable the colors are pin 2 Brown, pin 8 Yellow and pin 9 Black.
Can you trace the wiring from your CDC to the wiring harness?

I doubt your radio is faulty given the fact that audio output is OK.
Any chance of testing it in a nearby members car?

Hans
Good and useful info Hans but does this work for the BM24 too?

I get audio from the SATNAV and AM but nothing else on my BM24. Any ideas?

The BM24 has 2x 10 pin connectors for the audio.
The CDC uses the bottom left hand connector.
If you can see the the CDC on the boardmonitor and you can select CD's and tracks then the power and ibus are present.
Have a look at the attached picture for this connector and the pin assignment.

Connection to the BM24 [CD-Wechsler]:
Pin 1 = CDC Left+ [Pink with Black stripe]
Pin 2 = CDC Right+ [Yellow with Black stripe]
Pin 6 = CDC Left- [Black with Pink stripe]
Pin 7 = CDC Right+ [Black with Yellow stripe]

Between brackets the original Rover wire colours for the CDC.
Maybe you can trace them from the CDC to the BM24.

Hope this helps.

Hans

Attached is the adaptor that I have to fit the BM54 unit. The long lead that runs off to the right seems to be surplus to requirements. This and the fact that the unit worked fine in the Rover 75 it was taken from presents quite a puzzle.

That looks like a proper adapter.
There are 2 silver male connectors that plug into the cars existing loom.
Find the one that has the wires that go to the white connector of the BM54.
This is the CDC connection.
I think it has 5 wires connected to it.
These wires are clustered on adjacent pins.
Make sure that they match one to one with the wires in the existing[old] loom.
That should do it, provided the CDC worked with the BM24 or Rover radio.

For the long wire that seems to goes nowhere, check to which pins it connects to on the BM54 connector.
That will give a clue of its purpose.
Have a look at this link to find the pin assignments for the BM54.

How does one tell whether a BM24 has one or two tuners without connecting it?

Thanks,

With difficulty, it should have a TMC label on it and also not be the Professional Model which has no TMC.

For Info as there are so many TV Tuners etc below is a list of model numbers to date for them.

Still haven't finished the various Radio Numbers yet.

Video Module (TV module) part numbers are of the form 65 50 x xxx xxx.
These units can be installed in I-bus cars such as e38, e39, e46, x5, x3, z4, MG ZT/ZT T and Rover 75 but NOT I-drive cars such as e65/66, e63/64, e60/61 and e90/91.
The part numbers start with the most recent I have found at the top of the list and the list is broken into 5 sections. I have seen many of these units on ebay and the remaining ones are from the BMW ETK disks.

Section 1 contains the hybrid analog/digital units.

9 118 577
9 112 837
9 126 252
6 126 251
6 988 906
6 908 079
6 962 212
6 966 696
6 966 615 Also used in retrofit kits.
6 962 190
6 956 832

Section 2 and remaining numbers are for analog units.

6 953 002/003
4 124 836
6 946 423
6 945 298 Also used in retrofit kits.
6 936 759
6 936 096
6 923 418
6 923 268
6 924 749/750
6 916 136/137
6 911 221/222
6 906 923/924
6 903 727/728 These parts may NOT support wide screen.
6 902 015/016 These parts may NOT support wide screen.

Section 3 MKII Nav vintage part numbers for small screen.

8 385 959
6 900 858
4 100 223
8 386 287
8 383 520/521
8 483 733/734
8 370 034

Section 4 Units combined with MKI Navs (required for operation).

8 375 668
6 900 413
8 364 418

Wow John, as usual you come up trumps.

This implies to me that the BM24 units many of us prefer have a black heat sink at the rear. I am watching a BM24 Business on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=010
and this has the copper heat sink on the side.

By Professional did you mean Business?

Yes getting myself in a muddle there.
Very sorry about that.
This one shown only has RDS not twin Tuners I'm afraid, so devoid of the Permanent TMC and some other functions.

Default BM24 repair help

Are you able to repair these units by any chance, as it seems a waste to simply bin it. Obviously I would not want to sell it on to some other unsuspecting user.

Any help appreciated as I have not found a source for such repairs.

Worth a try.
