Default Reverse Light Switch

My reverse lights do not work on my Rover 75 cdti until the gearbox has warmed up, i also have a jaguar xj so i share my motoring between them this means the Rover may stand for a couple of weeks at a time.

To change the reverse switch do i have to remove the wheel arch liner as stated by Mr. Haynes?

Thanks in anticipation
