Default 2.0 V6 Timing Belts

My 75 has covered 54,000 miles and is 10 years old and i am unaware if it has ever had the timing belts changed so i assume they haven't.

Am i right in thinking there are 3 belts to change in this engine and should all be changed together?

Which are:

Drive belt - camshaft front x 1
Drive belt - camshaft rear x 2

= 3 belts.

I hear of special tools being required for this job but will the average garage have such tools or would i need to goto a specialist. I know this is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string but what am i roughly looking at to have the belts changed.

Whats the going rate that you guys have paid?

The front belt looks visibly healthy but what do i know

Cheers for any help, Ant

Hi, there are three belts and as I see you are in the Midlands, I would recommend Lates600 to you. He is a member on here under the name Lates. Or google Lates600.

The standard service schedule is every 90K miles or 6 years. The OEM V6 belts are very robust and as yours proves, were designed to last at least 10 years. However, I'd say yours are due for replacement any time now. It's usual practice to replace the water pump at the same time. The procedure is complex, especially for anyone without experience. Special tools are advised, essential some would say. Your best bet is to use a garage specialising in the cars. Lates in Coventry come well recommended and their prices are very competitive.

If you get someone other than a specialist to do the job, besides the 3 cam belts make sure the tensioner and idler pulleys are replaced too.

Pump is extra. Bought my belt kit zua000610 and pump for 186 all in from A1automotive supplies in Kempston,Beds.
Rimmers are quite dear on this item.

Took mine to my regular service place in abertillery cost £540.00 including the water pump.

Xparts was charging £630.00 without the water pump.

The garage I took it to had arrange to hire the special tools? but I had agreed the price before.

Thanks guys!

Im looking at a decent bill then , Ill enquire with Lates and see whats what, it may be worth the trip down for a proper job, and if they come recommended from here i cant argue with that.

However, Im thinking would it be cheaper to supply my own parts with the kit available such as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Timing-Belt-ki...item563556465d

Or Dayco - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rover-45-75-82...item35a63fa197

Are these good brands sufficient of the job or do you reccomend sticking to genuine Rover parts.

I figure it must be worth getting it done, as i do intend keeping the car.

Thanks again, Ant

I dont think it makes a lot of difference on price really, as I have bought all my own parts and then some, and have spent a small fortune as I had plenty of Paypal dosh!!!. labour will still be around the 300 mark.

I bought my car very cheaply so I am throwing a large pot of dosh at it to bring it up to a tight spec.

I notice that the 1st belt kit contains MGR pulleys but Motorquip belts, for another tenner they do a full MGR kit as mentioned above. Belts may be more reliable,,dont know.

All I know is once all done the result is sweet music and happy Rovering about in your KV6.

Off out now to change my front discs and pads befor the rain comes back!!!
