Default FBH external temperature sensor

As always at this time of year, loads of webasto FBH queries, some related to " the weather has gone colder but my FBH isnt fifing up".

found this snippet of info- the original external temperature sensor fitted to our cars has a wide temperature tolerance, and a better freelander version is available

This is the Freelander fix if the ambient sensor is not working as expected and this will be the part I would buy if MGR do not offer an equivalent improved version

PROBLEM:
POOR HEATER PERFORMANCE FROM COLD ENGINE START UP
The customer complains of excessive delay in obtaining satisfactory heater output
following a cold start.

CAUSE:
Due to an excessively wide sensing tolerance, the outside air temperature sensor
may not activate the FBH until the ambient temperature is as low as 0 o C.
This renders the FBH inactive at temperatures where its additional heat output
would be beneficial in assisting with engine and heater warm up.

ACTION:
On customer complaint, replace the outside air temperature sensor with the new
narrow range sensor

PARTS INFORMATION:
JWL000020 Sensor - outside air temperature
NOTE: The body of the new part is now moulded in green to distinguish it from its
predecessor.

googling the part number brings up this thread

Has anyone actually tried one of these and found it works better?

With the amount of people moaning about broken sensors, the fact that the original one is so inaccurate, and the fact the Rover one is nearly £50, and finally the fact that I got the "uprated" version of the sensor for £20, I decided just to get the new one anyway.

Did you have to take the bumper right off?

Ive got small wrists, reckon I could swap them with jsut the undertray removed?

Cheers.

Does its bracket have to be unscrewed, or do you just unplug the connector and pull the sensor out?

Doesn't really have a bracket, the connector holds it in.
