Default Another Tourer boot leak needing your help please.

Hi guys n gals.
I've done a search and can't find a leak like this.

The nearside cubby in the boot area fills with water....a lot of water...
After taking the side covers off and sitting inside while it was raining the water looked as if it was coming from the far bottom left edge of the side glass.

Ok says me and sealed it.
It rained and...all was wet again.
Sprayed the window with a hose...nada
Turns out it's the gap between the tailgate and the roof.. Not the glass tailgate!
The water is running inside the seam and coming out at a tang near the side glass that holds a side cover in place. Hence it looks like the window is leaking. The water then drips off the seam onto the back of the side panel in to the cubby recess.

I really don't know where to look to see how the water is getting in.
I was careful with the hose so as to rule out roof bars and top strips, gps aerial, side trim, window and glass tailgate.

Would anyone have any ideas please.
Many thanks for reading my ramble.

Regards. Steve.

Hi Steve.

I've also had this problem. Mine happened to be doing the same thing but on the other side. Very difficult to replicate, but definately not the roof bars, sunroof drains, shark fin ariel, waist trim clips,or boot seal.

Have you checked the black air vent in the cubby hole either side? Mine was pouring in here too. No. 16 on here. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001824

Water was tracking down the rear pillar, and dripping right on top of the sat nav computer.

On occasions it actually dripped straight through the inner plastic trim, and onto the load spave cover.

http://www.75ztcommunity.co.uk/still-leaking-t3013.html

The plastic trim that finishers the hinges for the main tailgate pushes into clips that go into to the roof. The seals on these may have deteriorated. I resealed these, but still leaking. Be aware that this trim looks to be a one fit wonder. May be a good idea to purchase a spare http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-ERQ100650. Rimmers couldn't get me one at the time, but my local place got me one ok.

I think it was getting in as pictured in the last post on the link above, which I've now resealed, and seems to be successful. There is a gap between the roof skin, and the rear end of the car either side of both hinges. Difficult to see, but it's there.

Hope this helps.

Ben

Ben you are a star mate. I thought I was going mad as like you I couldn't see any way in through there.
I haven't had time tonight to look but I will be in the morning.
The side vents looked ok, but I won't hold me breath.

Thanks so much for the links. I think I may have this licked thanks to you

Kindest regards. Steve.

No probs Steve. Hope you sort it.

The seal around the vent is rubbish. Even after buying a brand new one, it was still leaking. Had to silicone that too.

Evening guys. Well hats off to Ben, Typhoon190.

Took the black hinge trim off the sill to find someone had been there before!
Loads of black silicon. So I started to dribble water all around.
I even nicked SWMBOs roast baster from the kitchen to squirt water aound the nooks and crannies. Sssh she don't know yet
Result? No water in the boot

Dribbled water around where Ben said....hey presto....... water!

So before I set off to work, I rammed the area behind the lip in Bens picture in the link above, full of "serious stuff" adhesive/sealant...
Tonight......NO WATER it worked.
AMAZING who would have thought that.??!!!
The water tracks back along that lip, outa sight and ends up in ya boot!!.
I did the other side too just in case.
As to why it started? No idea!!
I hope I've caked enough serious stuff around there now. I shall have another go in the morning.

Hopefully all fixed, and a BIG thanks Typhoon190.

So Steve before it gets too wet. Have a go here.

Regards and thanks. Steve.

Steve,

I'm having similar problems with our tourer. Can you confirm that once you sealed the area that Ben suggested you've had no more water leak issues mate?

Adding to an old thread, but I've been trying to find the cause of a water leak into the boot of the project car. I've sealed all the other culprits listed, but still had water coming in just under the fuel filler area. I'm pretty certain I've narrowed it down to the fixings for the fuel filler cap.
