Anyone up for a meet at this event?- Sunday 29 January 2012
Please be aware this is not an official 75 & ZT Owners Club meet and as such is not covered by the clubs public liability insurance. Also the owners club take no responsibility for the meet in any way

The 2012 Monte Carlo Classic Rally will begin in the shadow of the famous A-listed Titan Crane thanks to a partnership between The 2012 Monte Start Committee and West Dunbartonshire Council.

A special period Monte Carlo Show will be located on the site of the former John Brown shipyard and Monte cars will leave the start ramp in front of the £33 million Clydebank College campus. The Monte start falls on the Clydebank celebration of 125 years of Burgh status. West Dunbartonshire Provost Denis Agnew said: “We promote events that will bring added value to the area and this is a prestigious event for Clydebank.

Clydebank College is at G1 1BF. Look it up on Google Maps

Anyway I have penciled it in the diary as I would really like to see it again.

Hi Brian,

Only just seen this thread so apologies for my tardiness.

Sounds like a great way to start the year off. I'll add this to the calendar of events on the 2012 suggestion thread.

I should be okay for that (I think the rugby is the following weekend).

Hi Brian,

Right, I have added it to the calendar and added a link to this thread.

More details on the Council Website HERE (http://www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/news/clydebank-to-host-monte-carlo-classic-rally/)

We'll need to think where we can meet and park as they are hoping for 6,000 spectators. :xmas-smiley-035:

I'd definately love to go, but would have to be considered as a possible at this point in time.
I know I've got something on in January, but since my P.A. has just retired to bed, I can't confirm anything at this point.

Oh yeah, the boat shaped chippy is McMonagles, got a takeout window on the canal, (worlds only sail through chippy).
The foods none too shabby, but if you order a beer with your meal, you get a can of Tennants.

I used to live a few minutes away, so have enjoyed their wares several times.

I'll be there, if I can get the day off, but I'll likely be in the P6, with some mates in a GT6 and an MGB. If I spot you, I'll pop over for a chat. If the weather's not good, or the P6 has broken down, I'll be there in my 75! I saw them at Dumfries last year, and was very impressed at the diverse selection of cars, and how friendly the drivers were! Here are a couple of photos from when i saw them in Dumfries.

I think I'll try and do a recon run out there sometime and see what will be best. Trying to get us all together will be the problem as the event is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

I'll get back to you (unless anyone else has local knowledge).

don,t know clydebank to well, but this one on hand might not seem to daft an idea as it sounds whats,s public transport in area like? as if possible maybe all park up in car park couple of miles away and get bus, surely cant be much more than a pound and avoids the traffic congestion, as i say just a thought.

if the event is taking place at the Clydebank Retail Park then I would suggest we meet at the nearby Great Western Retail Park in the bottom corner of the B & Q car park.

That way when we are all there we can travel down in convoy and at least try and park together at the event.

Opinions?

Is everyone happy with the suggested meeting time of 11:00?

I've arrived home and just thawed out enough to post but, yes I did have a great day out. It was so cold I couldn't feel the pain in my legs but I did have a laugh.
I decided to put on my high viz jacket which I carry in the car so I can be seen in a lot of the photos hanging onto the railings.
Later in the day I got a prime spot opposite the start ramp but only problem was everyone thought I was a steward. The lady I was speaking with next to me thought this was hilarious with me having to explain to everyone.
Just after that ZT arrived an MGB painted in tiger stripes pulled in front of me and out popped a couple dressed up in tiger suits. Thats what the photographers were aiming for in the ZT shot so don't be too surprised they will be in the papers tomorrow.

On the Stratos, it was a replica but a very good one and those exhausts almost hit the ground as it left the ramp.

I was sitting in my car with a lovely chippy when the only other owner left in the car park, Craig I think from Livingston appeared back so we had chat while he enjoyed the heat up in my car.

Yes notes for next year wear a pair of winter socks

Sorry I could'nt make it, I had a dining table and chairs to assemble which gave me brownie points to fit a new interior (which the missus doesn’t like! Was nice to see a few of you briefly on Sunday, sorry I wasn't able to stop and chat for longer, but it was 3 o' clock by the time I'd had some lunch! I hope to catch up with you all again soon! This is my perspective of the run as an entrant with the P6, but I can post my photos of the other cars, from inside the barriers if people would be interested?
On Sunday, I was entered for the Blythswood Run, part of the Monte Carlo Historique event, which meant that the car was on display at Clydebank college for the afternoon, and then there was a road run, with a tulip roadbook for directions, from Glasgow, along a particular route, all the way back to Dumfries. I set off from home at around ten o' clock, and met some friends who'd come up in an A40 from Lancashire, in Dumfries. After a getting petrol, and a couple of delays, we arrived at the GTG arrival point in Glasgow, on South Street, where we met up with another couple of friends who'd travelled up in a Lancia Stratos replica. At this point, we signed various forms to state that both ourselves, and the cars were fit to participate, and we were handed a packet of stickers to put on our cars, so we could be easily identified as part of this run.
We arrived at Clydebank College at two, at which point, we went off to find something to eat, and when we came back, we did our best to get plenty of photographs of the cars at the display. The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant, and it was really quite special, driving into the complex, surrounded by crowds of people!
I was last on the start list for the particular run that I was doing, and my mate Adam was navigator for this trip. The run took us rather a contorted route through the streets of Glasgow, along the M8, onto the M77, then on to the A726, back onto the A77, then the A76, into Dumfries, finally stopping at the Cairndale Hotel. It was an absolutely fantastic experience, driving off the start ramp, along absolutely packed streets of people who'd turned out to see the cars coming though. We got friendly cheers and waves through the whole city! We managed to arrive ahead of six other competitors, including my friend Richard with the Stratos, which was rather good really! We missed the M77 exit off the M8, so went into the city centre, then back onto the M8, where we soon found the junction that we should have gone off at. We pushed on a fair amoutn, but just tried to maintain steady, but brisk progress. I think a few modern cars, who were travelling fairly slowly, were quite surprised to see a Rover 2000 overtaking them, with various modern Audis and BMWs. We only caught up on one competitor, a Triumph Spitfire, on the A76, who we overtook. When we got the hotel, and the Spitfire owner arrived, he seemed convinced that my car was a V8, or at the very least, a TC.

We received a very good reception at Dumfries, and the other drivers were all very friendly! I will definitely do the event again next year, as it's an awful lot of fun, and although not a competition, there's a real atmosphere! The car performed faultlessly, with the exception of a slightly sticky front caliper just after we set off from the start ramp! Thankfully it didn't resurface! The route really played into the P6's hands, with lots of fast A-roads, and some good corners too! t
Since my friends had travelled a reasonable distance just to get to Dumfries and Galloway, they decided to stay in a travelodge in Dumfries overnight, so that we could tour around as a group on Monday. We went to look at my newly-acquired P5, heard it running (more on that shortly), then went for a run to Kirkcudbright, around the coast to Gatehouse (where we met another P6 on the road, a 3500S) where we had some lunch, then over the moor road from Gatehouse to Laurieston, over to Loch Ken, then across to Castle Douglas, from where we all went back to my house. My friends went home at around six o' clock on Monday evening.
Overall, a highly enjoyable couple of days, and I would recommend the Blythswood Run to anybody! :D My apologies that the photos are not in the correct order! I can put photos up of the other cars if desired?

Hi Abas, and welcome to the forum.

As George (Flyer) has stated, Glasgow was used as a starting point for the Monte Carlo Classique Rallye. There were a number of different cities used with everyone heading to Monte Carlo for the main event. With Classique Rallye have the event is actually getting to Monte Carlo.

Have a look at the links in my post Number 10 (http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=880571&postcount=10) which will take you to more information.

I'm surprised there's no mention of this year's event which left Glasgow today heading for Dumfries.

Even though it passed just a few miles from my house (Kilmarnock & Mauchline) I was unable to see it as I'm again confined to indoors with a heavy cold, my fourth since mid November.

I'll be glad when summer comes with some warmer weather.

I was at the event today at the Peoples Palace........big turnout ...they were expecting around 10.000 in the park and the avenue off the start line was lined with people on both sides

Some interesting cars ...old Saaab 94's, Porsches, Volvos, MG's , TR'etc.

Only critisicm was lack of any burger vans / coffee vans as it was a cold day to be hanging about.......I took one or two pics ..will put them on here when I get a minute

I, too, went for a look again this year. Having done the Blythswood run to Dumfries last year, it wasn't as much fun just looking on. The cars were very varied, and spanned many eras. It seemed very well attended, and Glasgow Green was certainly a good place for the start.
Here's a link to my photos. I'm afraid they're not great, as I don't have my SLR at uni with me, only a compact.

Something of these cars bring back some very happy memories
