1.8 engine noise

Anybody else get a rattling /knocking engine noise when under firm acceleration--? cant get to the bottom of this problem- we know its not a
quiet engine but this cant be normal can it ? I,ts really spoiling the whole experience-- driving on a light throttle reduces the noise but you dont get
far ! car has only done 11,ooo unpleasant miles ! Test book has shown
nothing --- all comments welcome

Sounds like the timing is not quite right, but this is done automatically by the knock senor, someone will be along soon with there input.
