Hi everyone,
Is anybody on here up for a trip to Snetterton in August to the British Touring Car Championships?
Always great racing to be had and a chance to fly the flag for Mg and Jason Plato driving the Mg6:)
If you fancy meeting up let me know as it should be a good days racing.
Race day is Sunday 12 August 2012

Another Bump.

Sunday 12 August 2012 race day is only but four weeks away.
Touring cars and the support races are a great introduction to Motorsport and great Value for money.
Myself and my Dad (both Mg owners) are booked.
I believe Steve and his Family are going as well.
Anyone who would like to meet up for some good racing and a chance to Cheer Jason Plato and the Mg team on let us know and we shall have a mini get together!
Going to check the venue out and post up a suggested meeting point and time in the next few days :D

Hi Gareth,

That will be great, will be good to meet you and yours:)
Have you been to Snetterton before? as I'm trying to work out where the best place for us all to meet up is.
I know Silverstone and Brands very well but never been to Snetterton. Let me know if you have any ideas.
I belong to a Photographic forum with a lot of like minded Motorsport Togs on there so I'm going to ask a few questions on there as well about best place to meet and Park up and best spots for watching and taking photos of the racing are:D

Hi Bob,
Could be an idea but I've got to get my Dad first from Earls Colne then double back so would be better if maybe we could hook up nearer the venue.
I'll have a look on the maps and see if there is a good meeting point, let me know if you can think of anywhere:}
Would be nice to drive into the course as a mini convoy and park up together.

Hi there Coolcat,

Thanks for noticing my other post,
My new to me ZT should be with me within a week or so.
Living in Hingham i am not more than about 15min from Snetterton on a good day.
I was familiar with all the uk circuits in my younger years. I was more into karting till my money run out.
Thought worth a mention that Snetterton on a touring car weekend is manic, 30,000 people last year. All arriving and leaving via the A11....
If planning a meet there be prepared for the crowds and logistics of meeting them once you are there.
This is the circuits premier meeting of the year. The idea of meeting elsewhere nearby and arriving in a mini MG convey makes sense plenty of nice norfolk villiges nearby, how you would keep a convoy given the likely traffic though...
The circuit has changed in the last year, a lot of investment has gone into it.
Until this took place on normal club meetings you could use your car as a base and drive round the outside of track from bend to bend. Unusually you could also get within the infield, the bit inside the track, great on wetdays and on sunny days space to put down a picnic blanket etc. NOTE none of this is applicable to a Touring Car weekend obviously.
Not trying to sound negative the support entertainment on track and elsewhere is 1st class on a touring car W/E.
It's a airfield circuit about as far removed from Brands as you will find, which means a lot of walking to get from one part of circuit to another, bearing in mind your car will be parked a longway away in a field (bit like Silverstone...).
Having said all this i will try to get there, likely to have a 7yr and 9yr old in tow, would suggest getting there early and timing your departure.
PS Weekend tickets are only a fraction more cost than sunday, much better viewing and ease of getting about on the saturday, plus the likelyhood of getting nearer to the drivers/cars later in the day.
If you have very young children then saturday almost makes more sense for the above reasons.
For public photographers, you could get quite close to certain bends better than others, i always used a 300mm lens, covered most bends and braking areas.
hope this assists, will follow this thread with interest

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply and details on Snetterton.
I have never been to Snetterton so any information is always appreciated on the logistics of meeting there.
Do have plenty of knowledge of other Circuits though in the Uk and abroad as I follow F1, btcc and other events doing Motor sport Photography. Have a look in our photographic corner on here for some of my stuff from Brands, Silverstone, Goodwood and Spa I think I have posted so far :D

I know what your saying about Saturdays but Unfortanantly I work Saturdays and only do race weekends for the F1 stuff when I can justify taking a day off. Glad I never bothered with Silverstone this year mind!
Anyhow hope you do get a chance to come down on Sunday and if you have any ideas as to a good place to meet up prior to going into the circuit then do let us know or if you really think its not very viable then maybe a good place to meet once inside the circuit.

There are quite a few places near by, either macdonalds at thetford or if from norwich there is a service station on the a11.

For anyone staying over a visit to the beer festival is a must!

Unfortanotly this could be the last outing of my zt typhoon as she will shortly be up for sale:(

Hi,
I'll be coming up from Essex so what would you think would be a good place that would be central for people coming from that direction and those from North of Snetterton?
How come your selling your Mg and are you getting anything nice to replace her with?

Going to Brands Hatch in October for the btcc as well. Doing that one with the family so I'll keep that as is but there are lots of other events in the near future that are always great fun to attend.....Watch this space!

Hi Mike,

Will be good to see you there if you can make it:)
Right, I'm off to study Google Maps to see if I can find a good meeting point somewhere near the circuit and central for people coming from different directions. Open to any suggestions as well as the ones already mentioned:D
If it does look awkward to meet outside the venue then perhaps we can arrange to meet up inside the gates.
This is where those of you that know the venue come in handy. I.e. a good muster point that will also provide good viewing of the race and access to facilities etc.
Only two weeks to go...........Yey!!

6th August 2012, 09:07
Hi Steve,

I'm aiming to get to Snetterton for 8.30 ish.
I think the best thing to do as I don't know the area that well and no one else has given a definitive answer re meeting up outside the circuit is to get in, get parked then meet up inside the venue.
I shall go onto the website and have a good look round and get an idea of the best meeting point for us all.
Shall also go on my photographic forum and check out the best place for meeting/viewing the race and proximity of amenities for us.
What I'm planning to do is get to the pit lane before the races start and get some photo's of the static cars, drivers etc there then head out to the track and our designated meeting place, thats the idea anyhow.
Shall post back my findings in a bit:}

Just been looking at Google Maps and just outside the circuit is a roundabout with a junction off into the market/ shopping area. We could meet there at 8.30 if you like:shrug:
I noticed that the road to the market area is gated so if they are closed, we could meet in front of those gates, otherwise just inside.
Here's a map. Have a look at street view level and see what you think:shrug:

Hi Steve,
Sorry for the late reply had a lot on my plate with work at the moment
I'm up for that, seems like a good spot to meet up.
I have to drive to Earls Colne to pick my Dad up early Sunday morning and hope to get there around that time hoping traffic etc doesn't conspire against us ;)
Would be useful if we know how many people are coming and whether they wish to meet up there for 8.30 or elsewhere from within the event later.
So guys let us know only a few days to go:D
So far Steve and Family and my Dad and myself will be meeting at the point that Steve has marked on the map.
Let us know your plans peeps.

Hi Guys
As someone who was born 2 miles from Snetterton may I suggest either The Angel at Larling or the Stag on the A11 on the outskirts of Attleborough as a meeting point both are only a few minutes from the circuit, enjoy your day.

Thanks for that idea Ian,

Right, so far it seems that Steve and Myself are the only defo's for Sunday so if anyone else wants to meet outside before we go in you'll need to let us know soon so we get this arranged.
Steve, I'll leave it as your choice whether we go with your meeting point or the one that Ian has told us about, just let us know:}
Whichever site we shall try and stick to the 08.30hrs time if that's ok.
If others would like to meet up inside the venue later in the day what I shall do is post up on here when we decide where the best spot is once we are there, the wonders of modern technology ' hoping we get a mobile signal;)'

Unfortunately living in Norwich there aren't many meets around this area. I went to Flixton and The 8 Ball Diner last year then to a couple in Meldreth this year. I'll try and get to one of the Southend meets. We have quite a few Classic car shows in Norfolk. In fact I'm going to one at Norwich Rugby Club on Saturday which is only a couple of miles down the road. Perhaps we could arrange a 75/ZT meet around this area next year. Thanks
