Does this seem too good to be true for under 2k? Apparently it has 130-odd k on the clock with FSH....

I am taking missus and lil un and we're going to make a day of it as its a good 250+ miles round trip. Can anyone see anything dodgy/questionable from the pics? I was curious as to the middle button between the heated seats buttons as there is no cruise control or rear sunblind so what could it be? I shall take a printout of the buyers guide and take my time with it but I hope there is no pressure from the sellers.

Difficult to tell from that photo - Traction control or SmartNav? As far as I know those are the only two function buttons that aren't Cruise Control, Heated Seats or Rear Electric Blind?

smartnav is the subscription ripoff isn't it? Fingers crossed its traction control then ...

also, just outta curiosity, how much of a faux pas is putting MG 18" Hairpins on a 75? (please don't curse me!)

Probably traction control :shrug::shrug:

Take your time and be sure. Not high mileage for a diesel. Check clutch as it's a manual, ask as many questions as you want because it's YOUR money.

The centre one is likely to be traction control, about the only thing I can think of!

Could that button be for something to do with the tailgate?

I replaced the serpents with ZT Hairpins on my saloon and much prefer the look. The rusty disc hubs don't look too nice now, might get around to painting them one day.

One thing about the tourer pics that might concern me slightly is the state of the front plate - not much in itself but might signal that the PO didn't maintain the car too well. It makes me wonder why the dealer hasn't changed it. I know there's not that many about, but if you don't like the look of it, hold tight until another one shows up. I tried to find a nice example myself and gave up in the end.

I was impressed at the fact that it has Pirelli Cinturatos fitted, and looks generally very smart. The plate wouldn't indicate much, as I know I've driven around with a rusty front plate on my P6 for almost two years. Certainly quite promising! I do notice that the price in the car's window is £2795, so maybe it's been about for a while?

I did enquire about the different prices and the fella said it was going for the internet price so I can only hope its been with them a while (quite innocently) and I can get a good deal on it :D

On face value it looks good to me and a very good price, the only thing I would be keen to check is the clutch and a close look at the history and paperwork. If it was me before making the journey I would do HPI check and check MOT history on VOSA site, get last MOT test No. from seller. If this checks out make the journey and give it a proper going over, beware sneaky sellers that top the clutch master up, at 130K odd hopefully there is evidence of the slave already being done. I would also get the engine hot, maybe hard if thermostat is stuck open and check how it starts hot. Clutch and injectors are the expensive concerns that need to be checked, if the alarm bells are not ringing after these checks it looks a good buy.

Keep us updated.

took the advice and asked for the not certificate number and came up with the following:

Test expiry date:
27/04/2013

Odometer reading:
144,739 Miles
Advisory Notice issued

Offside Rear bt tank Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Front both side Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

doesn't seem like something to worry about too much does it?

That's quite a bit more than the odd 130K miles originally mentioned?

Just viewed the car in under 5 mins. That's all it took!

To walk away!!!

Biggest waste of time ever. I pulled up and was escorted over the road to where she was parked up. Upon Unlocking the car I opened the door and reached down to the bonnet release which was broken! I asked the fella for a pair of pliers which he went to get and had a walk around in his absence. There was evidence of a rear bump where the bumper had been resprayed badly and there was a good crack about 2 inches long on the boot lid. The driver electric chair did not work and the passenger seat was missing the buttons. By the time he came back with the pliers I locked the car and walked away annoyed with the huge waste of time and effort involved.

Now we all know why the car was so cheap, hope you get the car you are after soon.

All those faults are easy enough to fix though.

Was the engine ok? Clutch? Service history? I know prople who abuse cars but do have them serviced so although thay have minor trim and lack tlc they are actually in good mechanical condition.

Good luck with your search.

They might be easy to fix, but it all costs money
My view on cara where the dealer does not mention any of the obvious faults in an advert is to walk away..

If they don't want to point out the obvious, then what else is lurking beneath that they are not mentioning

If I were looking to spend £2000.00 then I would be looking for a well sorted mk1 car... Keep an eye on the members cars for sale, at least you know that the car is likely to have been well cared for and the advert will be a true reflection on the car... ;)

Irrelevant now but that button is Cruise Control selection (well it is on my 2005 Connie). Judging by your experience the button probably did not work anyhow!!!!

Shame as the photos looked nice......

actually maybe not as there are no steering wheel controls...... mine has the stupid Smart Nav but that comes on automatically... irrelevant too as I do not pay a subscription!

well well well... you would not believe it if I told you... after stopping for some lunch I decided to have a quick look on autotrader and came across something in the vicinity:

52 plate mg zt-t in red
immaculate condition inside and out no tears or wear even on driver bolster
73k on the clock
2 keys
last keeper must be an enthusiast as there was a mountain of paperwork included
11 months tax!!
auto dim mirror
6 CD changer
boot tray including space saver, removable tow bar and Haynes manual(!)
there was one of them small boxes with a powerflex bush or suchlike inside as there is a slight knock and it will need replacing which the garage was up front about. apart from that job to do it seems to be all systems go. the drive home was lovely and I felt like a kid with a new toy... the best bit was even the missus seems to like it!

got it for £2400... which I thought was pretty good considering. pictures will be up tomorrow!!!
