I still have some of my old computers, an Atari STFM, a Vic 20 and a Yamaha CX5M hiding in the attic.

I also bought a new PC, but I specced it a little higher:

Quad core Q660 (2.4)
4 GB of Ram (silly really as Vista can only "see" 3GB of it, but it will be there when I upgrade to the 64 bit version.)
2 X 300GB hard drives in some Raid stripe something or other.
2 X 16x DVDRW drives (for copying DVD's "on the fly")
multicard reader (no more floppys )
22" widescreen digital monitor
Geforce 756Mb 8800GTX graphics card
M-Audio Delta 10 sound card

that thing runs call of Duty 4 in full resolution with all options turned up full and no lag at all :D but then again, it would need to :)

and it spent the afternoon entertaining my neice as she played solitare on it

Hmm

I can remember doing my "Real time computing" course at RAF Cosford on a computer which conveniently fitted in the back of an articulated truck trailer and communicated by punched tape.

You may think I'm older than my 3 score years and 10. :D

I used to spend days on end playing Defender on one of those. Brilliant.

My mate had a Spectrum, 48k "rubber keys" model, and his dad (rich type) thought this was the future of home computing and bought every single add on he could find for it. (mostly by Kingston) at the end of it all, it had a full size keyboard, 5 1/4 inch floppy drive, that sinclair tape drive thing, a "docking station" that had a printer interface on it as well as a modem, printer and a dedicated monitor.

all my mate ever did was play jet set willy on it.

Maybe the spotty oik from PC World who's delivering it has got lost.
There will be Lee, his little face pressed against the window pane, a tear slowly rolling down his boyish cheek. Wonering if his christmas will ever come.

Thanks Guys but everything tickety boo, I have had a hell of a job re-installing norton, product codes etc, but got there in the end, thank you for your kind comments (I think) this machine is brilliant compared to the laptop, I am not so happy with the keyboard and mouse they could have been better, but all in all very pleased.;)

For a decent quailty keyboard, I bought a Saitek Eclipse mk1 and loved it so much I updated to the MK2 when it came out. If you can live without silly extra buttons they are a great backlit keyboard, although I will say i prefer the "feel" of the Mk1.
I also have a Logitech G5 laser mouse, a little geeky maybe but a fine bit of kit. both are wired, I see no need for wireless in my case. :D

I may be changing this keyboard and mouse for the one in my showroom, they are heeps better than these, the keyboard seems to be a tad on the small side for my great big fingers :)
