Hey All,

Working on my car today i saw this pipe, sucks air in to the air filter.

Anyone have a part number for it?

As you can see it looks like the wires and been rubbing on it for some time and worn a hole in it.

Hi Kandyman,

You might notice an improvement in 'go' by sealing it up or replacing it. I'll find you the part number.

That part number has changed three times` over the years and thus Rimmers may have it under another

I replaced mine when i had my bumper off for the first time,

Its the stupid wires that they wrap round it - they wear it away!

Alex,

Did you notice any difference in the engine once you put the new one on?

That pipe is part of the discussion on the thread about squeezing more power out of the 190. Andy gave a very good explanation of its purpose which is to stop water getting drawn in. In the 75 location I think it is quite well protected from normal road spray, but...should you go wading in deep water, teh exposed parts could end up in tears with hydraulicing of the pistons! Be warned! However, this pipe is also the cause of the difficulties when it comes to changing light bulbs on the low budget halogen units.

I'd suggest you visit a plumber - I discovered that the 60° elbow in my DIY junk box is a very good tight push fit, therefore, it's likely to be cheaper to make a simple snorkel out of solid plastic at a fraction of the price of the new part.

Nothing at all!

If any that would allow colder air into the engine faster,

But as said i was more worried about the water getting in!

The cost of a new one was £35.86 then you have to add VAT,

Do you think this part can be changed without taking the bumper off again ?

I have done all my work on this part by removing the quadrant cover from under the bumper and then using the access panel from in the wheel arch. I doubt you need to remove the bumper.

Thanks MartinW,

the bumper was easy to come off and refit but i didn't want to do it again so soon ;)
