Mysterious black plastic box

The black plastic box on rear axle secured by two metal straps on right hand side of axle looking from rear of car has fell off whilst touring Scotland on holiday, does any one know what it actually does?

If you have xenons, it's the adjuster for your lights

If you have a diesel then it could be the air deflector for the fuel cooler. Mine dropped down a few years ago due to a sheared bolt. Drilled it out and retapped the thread and it's as good as new.
