What is the best thing to remove rust on tail pipes? My car has chrome tail pipe finishers that are pitted and have rust spots (pin pricks) all over. I have tried Auto Glym chrome cleaner, but it did nothing to improve the aperance. Any suggestions please. Thanks

I have had chrome tail pipes fitted for about three years, can't complain about rust, but my car is a diesel. The chrome gets covered in black spots [burnt diesel gunk] and the only thing I have found to remove it is Tar Remover, Chrome cleaner does not work.
Just to add, I recently tried to remove them to give them a good clean.
Can't find an alan key to fit. The size is 4.5 mm. although I must have had one to put the darn things on.
4.5mm. not a readily available size, I'll have to go to a specialist shop.

some fine wet and dry paper or a pot scrubbing pad followed by some autosol metal polish.

it will remove the pitting and bring up a top class shine.

they are the most neglected parts of the car, but with a bit of effort the can gleam again.

Hey thanks, had thought of wet and dry but was not sure. Will try it, I have the polish you mention, so should be gleaming soon. Just seems a shame to have a nice clean car and grotty pipes..............

I had a deisel once and yes, the pipes on that were a real pain!

Thanks both of you.

T cut works well and I think is less abrasive than wet and dry paper. :xmas:
