I'll be there on the Saturday.

I need to take the front end off to trace a loose connection which is stopping the horn and "bonnet open" light from working. If anyone would be kind enough to give me a hand, it would be much appreciated! After that, I'll be available to help anyone who needs an extra pair of hands.

(The other job I need to do sometime is the handbrake compensator, but probably not a good idea to try to do both in one day, so I'll leave that for another time.)

Compensator not a long job, fiddly but not too long.Should manage both ....always eager hands to help out.
People were very generous with help at the last meet and I was very grateful for that, but I know there will be others wanting help as well and I don't like to presume on people's goodwill, and I'd like to have time to offer help as well as ask for it. The "front end" job is urgent but the compensator can wait if necessary. Obviously it would be good if I could get both jobs done in the day but let's see what others are planning first.

(The other job I need to do sometime is the handbrake compensator, but probably not a good idea to try to do both in one day, so I'll leave that for another time.)
The loose connection has now been traced and corrected while changing the oil filter, so I no longer need to take the front end off (huge relief!).

The (MG Rover trained) mechanic also managed to improve the handbrake so that it now holds on 4 clicks, so the compensator can wait a while as well.

That means that, for once, there are no jobs to do on my car, but I will still try to come down on the Saturday if I can. Let's just hope the weather is kind!

Glad to hear it, there will be no paint left on that Typhoon when your finished. :)

But if you can show me some of your recent experiments with paintwork. I'll be most interested.

Not really a lot to see. You could follow this thread on DW (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=301059) which I started about a couple of Bilt Hamber products.

Most of what I've done on the Typhoon is just trying out the stuff I've bought, nearly all from BH. It really needs stripping back and starting from scratch, so to speak. There are quite a lot of stone chips which I don't feel confident about dealing with. Then it needs scratches and swirls dealing with. By hand that will be really time consuming but, again, I don't feel confident about using a machine. I'm about convinced I've got to give it a go so am going to order a Silverline rotary and a fairly new Auto Glym polish and pads kit (http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/silverline-rotary-polisher-autoglym-paint-pro-polishing-kit.php?cPath=71).

After that it needs a really deep clean, especially around all the fiddly bits and where the paintwork meets trim. And all that is without even thinking about the inside, the engine bay or underneath ..... that Tonybubble has got a lot to answer for, for selling me this car. :D I wasn't bothered about the 75 because when it was dirty it didn't have the same effect as it does seeing the Typhoon with muck on it.

So, at the moment I'm very much just learning how different products work and how they affect other ones. When I eventually start working on the Typhoon in earnest I'll take photos to show how things are going.

BTW sorry to all the boozers for hijacking your thread ..... not something I normally do, I'm sure you'll all agree. :D :getmecoat:

pab
20th April 2013, 21:18
Tony mentioned briefly at the PoL that he was glad the typhoon went to a good home, keep up the good work Fred.

I had a small piece of debris blow off the roof of the bungalow onto the roof of my car during the high winds, left me with a couple of thumbnail sized dings that I need sorting.

Back on topic for the overnight caravan and camping boozers..

Another great and successful meet. I can talk about these cars all day long, and always a pleasure to assist members.

The weather on Saturday was superb, I left early evening with a positive sun tan. Many thanks to those involved in setting this up, and looking forward to the next.

We gave the space hoppers to some of the young ones, Owls that's two girls were well pleased to be taking them home :) Have to say they are a credit to you Martyn :)

Come to think of it so were the two "boys" ;) I use the word boys very loosley as they were farther and son  :D

They were such a success we will almost certainly get some more for the next meet, my sides were aching at times with laughing and my back is still aching as a result of my Mo Farrar dive for the line and subsequent celebration. I have to say by that time i had strangely lost the ability to take photos, there were some very proffessional looking cameras flashing away at that part of the evening though ................ :o

What impressed me the most was that despite falling off and kissing the grass on four occassions that tab never left Brians lips !

Ended up in bed when I got home, turned into a 4hr power nap. Must've needed it. I blame beer, a very cold nights sleep, a bald head and a day in the sun.
I can't really say anything that hasn't been said already. A thoroughly enjoyable saturday of tinkering which got even better as it progressed into the evenings antics.
Brian (plus the odd helper) as always kept the burgers and sausages in good supply

Big thankyou to Brian & Andy for organizing the event, Simon for the dash (I owe you), Nigeb for solving the cramp in my fingers, Dave for the VIS motor, Raynor and Brian for the jumpstart and all the members who came along to make it such a laugh.

Looking forward to the next one :p:

Just like to say we had another great fun weekend "thanks Brian" & everyone else that had a hand in it + probably the best weather of this year so far.

I have lots of picy’s (how many can I put up in 1 post)?

Think that I’ll start of with the step-by-step Vinyl Roof Guide

Consultation Meeting

You’ll need a good strong drink in hand while doing this job

Not sure about them white bits of tape

Make sure you avoid any flying insects or helicopters getting stuck under the vinyl

Take time-out to stand-back and admire the work in hand & grin just how well it’s all going :drool4:
