Got a call yesterday from the wife to say battery flat and car would't start so after work gavr the car a jump start & tested with a meter which showed alternator was fine (about 12 months old) so disconnected battery & stuck the charger on it.
Battery showed about 48% & this morning still the same so looks like its renewal time.

Will call a few factors this morning but with all the different types not sure which is best or better or most reliable?

Don't forget to check out ECP for a bit of discount., and Bosch make a good battery, and the longer the warranty ,the better the battery. Just make sure it has the right ampere rating. (069?)

The bosch S5 or the equivalent VARTA silver are very good. I think there was a thread on here recently where someone had put a link in for an ebay listing of a Varta Silver at a very good price.

Exide is probably equally good.

I have the Bosch S5008 (680A CCA) in both my 75's and the Omega and am perfectly happy with them.

Bosch and Varta batteries are identical, the Bosch is a rebadged Varta. They are very good batteries.

The highest capacity battery that will fit in the box with the clamp in use is probably this one.

Cheaper than ECP as well, even with the discount!

You can get more short journey 'tolerant' batteries, such as stop-start AGM batteries, but they are double the price.

110 batteries fit in the box and have a bigger capacity, but the clamp cant be used so you will need to use some tie downs or a custom clamp of some sort to hold it.

Thanks for the replies & advice.

Will be going with the one rovex suggested.

Can't complain it's still on original battery so almost 10 years old.

Yes I do - with three cars, a bike and a quad, and only having a need for one vehicle, I find it's the best way to keep the batteries in tip-top condition.

I do the same with the ride-on Lawnmower and a spare 100 size battery that powers the lighting in the kid's playhouse. The optimate spends a day on each every 2 weeks.

Before I got one I was replacing the bike and quad batteries every 18 months due to lack of use during winter.
