Toying with the idea of fitting an EGR bypass to my 2006 CDT.
Any recommendations for which one as there seem to be a few about.
Do I need to fit a blanking plate to the engine to cover where one of the pipes would go? If I do, again, recommendations please.

Thanks,
macafee2

This is the one I fitted.:smilie_re:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130810348602?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch% 2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D13081 0348602%26_rdc%3D1
The stainless steal ones were recomended in a thread on here a while back.
All 3 pipes fit on this and iirc two of them are blanked.
One on auction here:smilie_re:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-MG-ZT-EGR-BYPASS-KIT-Stainless-Steel-/111008741299?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19d8a2f7b3

As above that is the one I went for; very easy to fit and came with some bolts to replace the Allan key originals. Worth thinking about doing the O Rings at the same time

there s a cheaper enamelled EGR bypass too if you prefer

PS there is also a thread in the how to section saying how you can clean the original and use that as the bypass. I looked at the four tonnes of stuck on carbon and decided I would probably use more than 40 quid in Gunk!

Dont mean to hijack but when I fitted my egr bypass, I noticed that the heater took longer to heat up. Is this related?

Could well be, in some Mazda Bongos made for cold parts of Japan, there is a valve which can be closed to send more exhaust gases back to the engine to make it warm up quicker.

It is likely that the heat from the recirculated exhaust gas would help engine warm up in the 75.

Thanks for that. I thought it may be along those lines. I am suprised I haven't read about this problem on all the egr bypass threads I have read over the last 3 years:shrug:
Thinking about fitting my old original one back on for the winter months.

I have not noticed this; mine seems to click in at the same point on my daily drive as it did. Best thing for me in terms of cold running was moving to 5W 30 oil. Allot less drag

never noticed a dif in temp either, but the valve was all gunked up so maybe was not working anyway.

Fitted the same one myself, easy to fit, not noticed any difference in temp, if heater is taking longer to warm up check the thermostat.

I fitted the inline Renault thermostate mod and that is working fine Chas. To me though, no hot air (exhaust fumes) going through the egr would equal a slower engine heat on starting, as munroman said, which I suspected was the reason for the hot air being a little slower through the heater marix.
I cant complain though as I drove the car with a the original thermostat bein BER and no FBH for 2 years. In the winter I constantly had my thick padded coat on and sometimes a hat:D:getmecoat:

It is/was my understanding that the egr only opens under higher boost or revs, or both. To push the motor to that when it is still cold should not be normal practice.
Mine warms up in about ten minutes at low revs getting out of the driveway and the village. EGR bypassed and reno stat. Goes down to 79 degrees when idling on these cold winter mornings.

There are 2 types of EGR input pipes fitted to the M47R
Doesn't seem to be year related either.

One has the water jacket for quick warm up.
Basic type doesn't .

Anyone who's bypassed the former will lose the fast warm up benefits even if they have a good thermostat .

Identification of the water jacket is easy.
Its a stainless steel block with metal inlet and outlet pipes ( all one piece)
A black plastic bleed point is clearly visible too.
I posted pics up few years back on here somewhere!

It also explains why owners report different warm up times on the many Thermostat renewal threads.
