There will be a road trip around the Forth on Saturday, taking in as many of the points of interest as we can, followed by an evening social at The Capital Hotel on Clermiston Road.

The Sunday static event will be at Lauriston Castle, which is situated off Cramond Road South.

Full details and a downloadable entry form are on the rally web pages at http://www.sarr.co.uk

I'm afraid I will be giving this a miss this year, after last year's fiasco with delays in judgeing etc and the cost of £10 for a mug as opposed to a "proper" show memento.

After all as in with most shows nowadays where entrants have to pay for entry, yet the public invariably get in FOC
Without our cars there would be no show and this is why I'm keeping my SD1 Vitesse under wraps as well.

Afraid Jim has got his facts wrong.

Without the £10.00 entry fee there would be NO event. The harsh reality is that even with this fee the event does not cover all its costs, and only donations keep the event viable. Someone has to pay for the venue hire, the Public Liability Insurance, the trophies and and the rest.

Remember, at SARR there is NO income from the public as there is at bigger events such as Glamis or Thirlestane. These big events attract hundreds of visitors who pay at the gate, and traders who pay for their pitch. A show of a hundred Rovers and no trade stands would attract how many paying visitors? Any gate income would not even cover the additional costs incurred.

Time for a reality check, after all £10.00 won't buy 2 gallons of fuel today.

I'll be there, Trevor. It's a terrific event, and it'd be a shame to miss it! The venue looks lovely too!

Afraid Jim has got his facts wrong.

Without the £10.00 entry fee there would be NO event.

I don't think I've got my facts wrong as its a case of "What came first the chicken or the egg" as with no cars there's no show but I take on board what you mean regards costs in your particular event.

Also bear in mind I stated "as with most shows today" I really do think they should be charging the public and not the exibitors

Time for a reality check, after all £10.00 won't buy 2 gallons of fuel today.

As for the reality check, well I did this in 2011 with a spreadsheet.
Direct costs involved to attend 13 shows was over £1,000 which included £59 in entrance fees £626 for fuel with the remainder for tax & Insurance.
All this was purely to attend shows with no other private use so I'm afraid for the time being I'm placing what little spare cash I have on other fields of enjoyment.

I note you make no mention of the judging which to my mind was a bit muddled and delayed if I recall, as no one seemed to know when the results were being announced, but hey ho that's life I suppose.

I will be there on the Sunday. I have downloaded the entry form but I don't know what vehicle I'll be in yet.

Not wishing to teach granny to suck eggs Trevor, but has anyone been approached for sponsorship of the event?

The SARR organisers are always on the look out for sponsors and people who will donate goods and services to the cause.

In the past we have had cash help from Rover dealerships (Morrissons, Taggarts) and raffle prizes from other garages and suppliers such as Castrol and Xpart, but in the current economic climate this has become more difficult to obtain.

Our major difficulty is that as a small niche event we just don't have the volume of visitors to make it an attractive marketing proposition. We will, obviously, accept any help that anyone wishes to offer.

I'm with Jim Jamieson on this. I think the £10 is way off the mark in relation to other events. I acknowledge SARR is not the same as other events as such and its for specifically MGR, but if finding sponsors etc is becoming increasingly difficult, then perhaps a change of format is required.

I agree, SARR is a small niche event, but it appears to be organised to be exactly that. A couple of years ago I asked if MGFreedom (MGF and TF's) could attend and the answer was no. There is no representation of these MGR cars, yet a Maserati and other manufacturers are present at SARR.

If other MGR groups were allowed it wouldn't be a niche event and if other ways of raising funds i.e. charging for caterers to sell their goods, other types of stands etc were considered, it would bring SARR into line with how other shows are run which have a bigger volume of visitors.

I'm all for the 'build it and they will come' approach rather than the 'doing the same thing and expecting different results' approach.

I'm not having a go, just an observation. I only attended one SARR and it was a good day but was sort of put off by the costs and lack of facilities compared to other shows.

Valid point Glenn.

The show at Moffat is organised by the Scottish Rootes Group O/C but other makes are actively encouraged to attend.

In these days of dwindling attendances due to rising costs for the owners of the vehicles you need to cast your net a little wider.

Entries for the 2013 SARR have been coming in nicely, we already have over 50 cars pre-entered, of which about half a dozen are 75s or ZTs.

Pre-booking is still open, and will be until 4 May, so if you are planning to come along and have not yet submitted an entry form, now is the time to do it. Download your entry form from the SARR web page.

There are still places available for the Saturday evening dinner at the Capital Hotel, book via the rally entry form please, bookings MUST be made by 4 May as we have to confirm numbers with hotel.

The Saturday road run will start from South Queensferry, travel along the south bank of the Forth via Blackness and Bo'Ness and on to Stirling, then return along the north bank via Culross, Charlestown and Limekilns. Plenty of places to visit along the way.

Hope to see you there!

I'm hoping to be there, but it very much depends on whether or not I have enough time at home to get the head off the 2000 (again) to change the O-ring at the back of the head, as it's leaking oil constantly.
I'll book once I know one way or the other.

We now have over 80 vehicles pre-entered for this year's rally at Lauriston Castle. This includes 7 75 /ZT s in class 6 and 2 in the Masters Class.

I will not be closing the listings for advance entries until after this coming weekend, so there is a final few days for those of you not quite so organised to get your entry forms in and get your name in the programme and secure an attendance award!

11th May 2013, 11:19
Advance registration for the 2013 SARR has now closed with a grand total of 92 vehicles entered. Class 6 (75 & ZT) has 8 entrants, and there are 2 75s representing the marque in the masters Class.

As Rain Potisepp will not be defending his class win the two Masters Class 75s are those of Graham C and Alan G, whose cars won class in 2011 and 2010 respectively.

The club trophy has now arrived back safely from Tallin, and is ready for presentation to this year's winner. Will it be you?:;)

If you forgot to send in an advance entry, despair not, you may still enter on the day.

Is anyone willing to act as co-ordinator for the club's stand this year, to act as a marshal during Sunday's set up period?

If this rain ever stays off when I am off, I might get her polished and the niggly bits done, its been a nightmare this year. Any dry days have been spent under the bonnet or doing brakes, a wash wax a polish is well overdue. Don't get me started on the state of the interior.......:getmecoat:

The SARR organising committee has been planning and delivering the Scottish All Rover Rally on your behalf since 1995.

Members come and go, but at the end of this year, two of our members with more than 30 years service between them have indicated they wish to step down. The committee membership will thus reduce to 5 and that is insufficient to undertake all the work involved in planning and delivering our annual rally.

The organising committee is a very informal group meeting about 6 times a year, usually in an east central Scotland location. All members have rally related responsibilities, which include negotiations with rally site owners, planning the observation road run & the Saturday evening meal, design & printing of the souvenir programme, and ordering rally attendance awards, rosettes & trophies. Of course we all pitch in on the Sunday to help make the day a success. The work is very rewarding and there is a great sense of achievement when it all comes together over the rally weekend with the number of entrants increasing year on year.

Do you want to see the SARR continue and achieve its 20th Rally event next year? Do you have any fresh ideas as to how the SARR could be run, venues for future events, or perhaps even alternative formats the SARR could take in the coming years?

To put it simply, unless at least two new volunteers come forward to offer their services very soon, then when your letter from SARR drops through your letter box next February, it may not contain an application but an intimation that the SARR is no more.

Want to help? Of course you do! Talk with a committee member at the Rally caravan on Sunday if you are willing to become a member of our group or would like more information, or contact the committee via email or our Facebook page after the event.

I had a very enjoyable day out at Lauriston Castle, and felt that it was one of the best SARRs that I've been to, so far. I took my 75 2.0 V6 Club SE along, instead of the 2000, as my 2000 needs a new tie-bar. I'd like to say a big thank you to Gary (Lovel) for checking my car with T4, enabling the auto-locking, and checking all of my fault codes, where we discovered that my VIS motors need repaired, which I'll attend to in due course!
There was a very large variety of cars present, and we were very lucky that the weather remained as nice as it did. I didn't get a chance to speak to all of the 75 owners, as I spent a lot of time looking around the P6s, and taking photos. My favourite cars at the show were the Series One Rover 2000 TC on wires, the two-tone Green P5 3 litre mark one, and the Burgandy and Grey P5 3 litre mark 2.
Sorry that there are so many photos, and if I've missed your car, I do apologise!

I just cleared what may be old fault codes for the VIS motors. You need another session with T4 to establish if they are still present, so don't go changing them out quite yet. I didn't really have time to run live data, would be good to see if they operate on that too.

Just need to get hold of a secondary throttle potentiometer and rear ABS sensor now.

Tim, no need to go to that expense yet. Trace the wiring and check for bad contacts, shorted or snapped wires first.

Wish I had noted down the ZCS codes as mentioned there was a mismatch on the IPK and after reconfiguring they were all matched up fine, but I should have noted the ZCS codes and checked the configuration to see if it matched the spec of your car. Maybe next time eh?

Thanks Gary, I checked and cleaned the connectors on the ABS sensor and secondary throttle on Monday afternoon, no joy. I did try plugging in a spare front ABS sensor as a test and the ABS light went out, so moving forward on that one. I will make a close inspection of the wiring at the weekend if I have time.

I swapped back in the old lead, still sounding terrible idled high all the way into work today and the fan kicked in to prevent overheating. She's getting driven home tonight then I am not touching her till she goes to see Duncan on Monday. She does sound poorly! :(

Alan, It was cylinder 2 that was giving the misfire. Have you removed the lower rubber from the bottom of the coil pack to inspect the spring connection to the spark plug, It can corrode and get stuck stopping connectivity to the plug
