Now i have a new bumper that has the sensors in place i want to get them working.

So the question is can i retrofit an original rover unit or will these sensors work with a cheap eBay after market kit?

I fitted an after market rear sensor kit to mine with no problems, works great:}.

But did you replace the sensors or use the original rover ones?

The aftermarket kits between £15-£20 work extremely well with a nice dsiplay that sits well on the mirror to see as you reverse, I had them in the 1.8 highly recommended and a very easy fix.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Parking-Sensor-BACKSCAN-REVERSE-Parking-Sensors-For-Small-To-Medium-Cars-/390541324830?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5aee13b21e I fitted this kit,no display, but a good bleeper and everything fits in the boot out of sight, run the wires to the sensors through the boot seal ,and stick on the very bottom inside part of the rear light assembly, just above the bumper, self adhesive pads on rear of sensors. Only trouble with them is,you have to be fairly close to an obstacle for them to take effect,eg 2-3ft. I suppose its not that bad,as once they start to sound ,you know you are getting close to something.

I have the kit with a beeper had it for some time it was meant for my old Citroen berlingo multispace but never got round to fitting it.

As my new bumper has the color coded sensors attached i was wondering more than anything if i can use the color coded sensors with the aftermarket kit?

I want to keep the color coded ones you see so then i don't have black sensors on a silver bumper. ;)

My original Rover ones are so appalling I have disconnected them altogether; so aftermarket ones as described above sound pretty interesting; can the warning beep of the sensor (indicating failure) which comes on only on first used be disabled on a T4?

mine went beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep all the time as soon as it was in reverse; looked ok on a T4 cleaned everything still went beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. So I disconnected beneath the bumper and now I get one beep when I first select reverse on a journey to warn me the sensors are not working. I quite liked some of the other sensor suggestions above.

Or I will stick with using my two eyes which have not yet let me down

To use the original Rover sensors you need a BCU for them ,and this will need to be wired into the vehicle harness, then enabled with T4

As no one seems to understand what you were asking.
They are only transducers so if you are not going to try to retro fit the MGR system chop the plugs off the one on the bumper and give them a try with your after market kit. They will either work or go BANG!!! (or not work at all) and my guess is they will work maybe not as good as the the ones that came with your kit but if it was me I would give it a go. So go on be brave and don't blame me when it goes BANG!! Good luck!!

Too late I fitted the after market kit in full and sold the wiring loom with the old sensors.
