Remove the strut & then remove the spring...

It is virtually impossible to get this undone due to the length of the thread at the top preventing a ring spanner being fitted. I cut mine off with an angle grinder, not ideal because the grinder is rather unweldy in a tight space. Tips.
1. Make sure you have put some sort of protective cover over the ABS and Brake sensor pipes. Angle grinders have a mind of their own.
2. Use the smallest grinder available with the smallest disc possible for the job.
3. Very important to cut at an angle or you will cut into the flange.

I cut mine then used a small lever bar to dislodge the nut and thread. I had to run a drill round the aperture to clean it up and then coated it with Hammerrite.

Finally I cut about 3/8th off the new top thread so that I can get a ring spanner there in the future.
