Hello to all existing members, I own a 02 plate 75 cdt tourer automatic with around 75k on the clock, the engine appears to run perfectly with the exception of being a bit lumpy on tick over, however, just recently the fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I recently did a round trip from Leeds to Buckinghamshire, driving as steady as possible, it returned only 370 miles from a full tank of juice!!! thats an average of around 30 mpg. Could anyone advise me where i should start looking for the fault.

Regards

My 124000 miler with Ron's Tu3B, Mafam, bypass etc started to indicate the same, as well as being a bit sluggish at lower revs, and Ron agreed that it could be the MAF. At £57 it wasn't going to break the bank, so I bought and fitted one, and although I've not driven far enough yet to do a brim-to-brim, the message centre shows some improvement. Certainly the performance has.

So I don't know if yours is the same problem, but maybe worth investigating?

Edit - please excuse my (lack of) manners - welcome to the club!!

Probably won't explain the difference you are seeing, but this time of year is notorious for fuel consumption increases as you are driving everywhere with your heater, heated seats, rear screen heater, lights etc on nearly all the time. Power has to come from somewhere...

but such a drop as you seem to have experienced indicates a bigger issue IMHO

I'd agree with the MAF suggestion but if you look at Roverron's site you will see that there could be more to it. MAF's a nice zero cost test anyway (see Ron's (Ron@s) suggestions on testing).
