My 2004 early facelift 75 1.8 petrol tourer suffers from a flat spot or hiccup immediately after changing into second or third gear. It doesn't happen every time, but on a bad day maybe up to 50% of the time. My ex MG Rover (now Hyundai) dealer did a diagnostic check on the engine management system and this apparently identified four new spark plugs needed fitted. With them fitted the fault remains. The car has 23k miles and has been doing this since I bought the car with 14k miles. This spoils an otherwise refined car. Any suggestions?

Thank You. Know another very decent Rover fan also from Wales! A Mr. Ian Glass from Denbighshire.

Hi there

couple of years back I had a flat spot too.

FIX - new HT leads, new plugs and two new coils.

Not sure what fixed it but after the above it all went away and been fine since.

I'd guess the leads - but if not themn go for a test on the coils.
