Hi all

on www.r75.info we are currently discussing a technical question which may also be of importance for you in the UK.

Petrol is actually mixed with 5 % of bioethanol (in Germany). No problems with our engines at the moment they run perfectly with that mixture.

As the European Commission has already decided the above mentioned mixture ratio has to be changed up to 10 % bioethanol and 90 % petrol. Some experts say that a lot of car engines will have problems with this kind of fuel. Manufactorers have to approve compatibility of the new stuff with their engines. As MG Rover and Powertrain don’t exist any more there is no one to ask for an approval.
However what we found is that Land Rover already has given an approval for the 4-cylinder engines of the same type working in 75’s. Not sure about the KV6.

We don’t know if comparable standards are already exist in the UK or will be created.

Is anyone of you familiar with this problem? Do you have more information about compatibility of the new fuel with our engines?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Regards

Gert

We have been running around with synthetic petrol here for years. There were initial reports of some corrosion problems on certain aluminium parts and some accumulation of water caused by the alcohol they use.
Most of these problems (if not all) have been sorted out. Brazil is running a lot of alcohol in the fuel as well. I don't think you have to worry too much. You are walking down a path already well trodden:D
