View Full Version : Screwed MAF!

I am pretty sure now my MAF has reached the end of it's useful life! Now, should I get a brand new Bosch one with housing (links please) or buy a second hand roverron MAFAM compensator which would be considerably cheaper?

I don't really want a MAFAM as I am unsure if it will detrimentally affect my engine (which is on 130k miles) but if it works okay and is 75% cheaper than a Bosch one then I probably would!

Opinions gratefully received!

I unplugged the MAF last night and today when driving to work I noticed fewer down gear changes (auto box) when below 2k RPMs and going up a slight incline. I suspect my MPG might actually increase as a result. I guess this would be conclusive that it is ********?

hi there, you can get a genuine bosch MAF for around £130 from germany,so if you take the price of mafam and pierburg maf it is a no brainer.http://www.maf-shop.com/

Ah! So you can't use a MAFAM on a knackered Bosch MAF? Only on a PBurg?

In that case it will need to be a Bosch one! £130 is still a lot of dollar though!

Spot on.!

The MAF-shop is on e-bay & if you make a "best offer" just under the "buy it now" they accept & you get it about 2-3 days later Well thats what i did & all was fine.

Paul

I have a CDT with the XPower 131 upgrade, so, is this the right one? Sorry, but the thought of spending nearly another £150 makes me want to be sure!

yes that is the one i think, but like the post above says the same company advertise them on ebay and you can offer a slightly less price and they usually accept it.you can buy cheap copies but they do not last 2min so you would be buying again, you can run without your maf for a while in the meantime save your pennies and get the genuine article you will be glad you did.

That's what the Mafam was designed for, a flaky Bosch or a PB

but unless you have a cheap/old PB and the mafam is very cheap , maybe a new Bosch isn't going to be that much more in total ?

And the new Bosch will have 2 years more warranty that the old stuff ;)

Well, my Bosch one is flaky and the MAFAM is nearly £100 cheaper, so will this work for me? I would rather get a new Bosch one but if I can save a ton then I will!

I have found the ebay shop and the right MAF on it, so will buy if the secondhand MAFAM is no good for my knackered Bosch MAF!

It would be worth a call to Brown and Gammons to check if it is a genuine Bosch. They are an xpart dealer so it should be.

FWIW I have just spoken to B&G and the ones they have advertised @ £108 are OOS and if they were to order more in they would retail for £180!

Hi, yeah this looks okay, have found a company near me that can do a genuine Bosch one for £132 so I might just bite the proverbial bullet and get one on payday.

The more I drive my auto with the MAF disconnected the more I think it is defo shot. Much smoother with less down changes...

Bosch MAF sensors rarely if ever fail with a signal lower than it should be, always higher.
So if you amplify a signal that is to large to begin with, you end up compounding the fault.
HERE (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-MHK101130-75-ZT-MG-Mass-Air-Flow-Sensor-Meter-BOSCH-0928400520-MAF-/130950762297?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ARover%7CModel%3A75&hash=item1e7d460f39) you go

Thanks Brian, I have that one on my watch list already ;)

So, in layman's terms, if it is already knackered, just get a new Bosch one?

Then I will!

Some , including myself have cleaned them with isopropolyne ?? An electic contact cleaner. Granted this will not work on a damaged one.
