Tomorrow I am goint to view a fellow club members 75 CDT manual with a view to buying my first 75.

The car has done 130K+ miles and has been very well maintained by the current owner but it is possible that the car may be on it's original clutch & flywheel. I would therefore appreciate some advice as to where a healthy clutch should bite on 75 and if there any other telltale signs if it may be on it's way out.

Also how much should I budget for replacing the clutch & fIywheel if done by one of the owners club specialists?

Thanks
Rich

If it is original then is is about due. Normally the slave cylinder will fail before the clutch plate is worn out. My first slave went at 142,000, the replacement lasted a further 85,000. The master cylinder failed at 242,000. The car is still on original DMF. If the car is driven sympathetically you rarely have a premature DMF failure. 1 would less than 1 in 10 when you get your clutch changed. My first slave and clutch plate cost about 329.00, the 2nd was about 354.00. This was at A1 clutches at Tipton in the West Midlands.

So a clutch failure is a wear and tear item like brakes and tyres. The rover is certainly no worse than a lot cars and considerably better than the ford mondo.
