Having discovered (thanks Pab) both my number plates light bulbs were not working. I went about replacing them....still not working. Pab again came to the rescue with some advice, so off I go ( with the help from a How to from T Cut with photos on my iPad). Removed the boot lid panel and discovered the problem in the pictures below
Went out and purchased a soldering iron etc....never soldered anything in my life before.
Got home removed the 4 nuts.......and that's it. I could not remove the spoiler/lip for the life of me. I even took out the to little screws next to the MG badge...still to moving. With a little pressure I manage to get the far end to move but did not want to put to my pressure on the spoiler just in case.
Have I missed something or is they an easier way to get it fixed/repaired.
Looking how the how to from T Cut I think I followed the guide fully up to this stage
Cheers Robert

The lip spoiler if not previosly removed is held in place with 3M double sided automotive tape. If all the fixings are removed gently pull away from the bodywork, maybe with the assistance of some heat.

I noticed the addition of the double sided tape when I removed mine, but the spoiler had been removed previosly as the PCB had been replaced by the previous owner.

The chrome cover should just lift away from the boot lid if the four retainer nuts have been completely removed. Notice I found one of the outer pins had two of those crazy 'nuts' on. This may be a common problem, so get a torch and look carefully at the base of the outer pins to ensure there's nothing to stop them coming out. The chrome piece doesn't have any adhesive under the plastic gasket, it's the white piece with the PCB that's stuck on.

TC,

I think he is having problems removing the lip spoiler assembly fitted to MG models..

Pab, correct, that is the problem. All 4 retaining nuts removed and checked as per T Cut's comments. One end will move but the rest is just won't budge.
I've not got any chrome items to remove.
Thanks

Robert

Hi Robert! Our twins again... Mine has one faulty light, but mot due soon so I need to get mine sorted too.

As Pab said, a bit of heat would help, hairdyer for 5-10 mins, and I read a while ago that someone used dental floss to remove the tape, literally scrape the tape from the body work with the floss, which of course won't scratch it.

I'd be interested to know how you get on as I need to do mine asap!

Hope you're keeping well :D

Will have another crack at it this weekend if its dry. What would the best thing to use to stick the lip back on? If I get it off that is.

Robert once you have repaired the connection have a good look at the circuit board for any damage. The tracks can overheat and short out. Might save you from having it all apart again at a later date.

You can repair the damage but mine was in such a bad state that I cut through the tracks to isolate them and hard wired the bulb holders to the connectors.

You can use a tube of instant gasket or silicone sealant to ensure the boot lid is watertight after the repair.

Mike, thanks, used the hair dyer, removed and the light holder was in loads of bits like a jigsaw. The circuit board was cracked, corroded and I think beyond repair...although I did try. Will need to replace fully.
