After a somewhat "spirited" drive along the M27/A31 in the company of a Porsche 911 yesterday I pulled in to a garage near Wimborne to get some fuel only to have the 911 follow me in and stop at the next pump, as we were filling up he looked across nodded and said "that goes well, what's under the bonnet? " 2 litre diesel was my reply.
Anyway back into the car after paying for my fuel and Jan sit's there with a big grin on her face, what's the joke? I ask. Jans reply was that when the guy opened the door of his 911 to get his wallet she overheard him saying to his partner, it's a B***** diesel.
Shortly after leaving the garage he disappeared into the distance. I think he needed to make a point..
Cheers Ian

Nice one, Had similar on a Hayabusa I once had, Left RAF Kemble at 9am on a Sunday came across a 911 Turbo sitting in the outside lane of an empty M4 and we had a play, never had a car try to match me on bikes, but what the heck and he didn't back down till he stopped accelerating, Suffice to say it wasn't a long race and eventually he moved over, but it got me going to the extent that I was indoors at 10.50am :D

I once got shown up by a Audi A4 2.0T petrol, left me for dead. The Audi pushes about another 40BHP

Heavens knows what a Porsche 911 could do to me. ;)

In the ZT, I used to find a lot of people would try to get you to race them, but I just ignored them and got on with my business.
I've had a few instances of classic owners being very surprised by my P6 though. One particularly memorable one was on a late-night run for classics, on which I was pressing on. I saw some lights in the distance which looked like those of a classic, and when the opportunity arose, went past in quite a rush.
We arrived at the pub, at the end of the run, and ten minutes after sitting down, a chap came over to our table, and said, "Is that your Rover outside?" Yes, I replied. "Is it a V8?" No, I replied, it's a 2000. He seemed very upset, but said he was deeply impressed at the pace from a 2000 auto.

I think my favourite car for 'playing' was my old Rover 620ti - a 2.0 turbo with 197bhp in Rover 600 skin. Highly recommended for annoying 'boy racers'!

Loved this car... :(

I used to have great fun in the 80's flashing 911's out of the outside lane in my heavily tuned Maestro turbo. Great fun :D

A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of being a passenger in 911 Turbo Softtop. The thing pulled like a train and then pulled some more, I litteraly had to grip the bottom of the seat to keep myself restrained. The truth is, if I had spare underpants with me, I would have used them.

Don't try and flash these in the fast lane. :)

Don't try and flash these in the fast lane. :)

A friend of mine has an Evo VI that's been tuned to within an inch of it's life; just shy of 580bhp.

That goes chasing Lambo's and Ferrari's, let alone 911's. ;)

The 911's in my day were a different kettle of fish to today's beasties.

For all we have a huge number of powerfull cars on our roads, in my experience, not many of them want to "play" even on the quietest of motorways.. ;) :D 90% of them never leave the inside two lanes.

But I bet being past by an old fogie in a flat cap driving a diesel Rover annoys a few of them innit... :D :D :D

I think the biggest contribution to road congestion are the driver who pull out to overtake, and then do so at about 2 mph faster than the 20 cars they pass, taking 20 mins to do it and causing huge tailbacks behind them. Maybe they hate turning their cruise control off huh.

I can't wait to get the remap - counting down the days.

I think at lot of people are surprised at how quickly a 'big old Rover' goes full stop, particularly when a single carriageway turns into a dual carriageway and they go for an overtake wanting to get past an old doddery in a Rover. Even for 116bhp it still shifts for a car that weighs a ton and a half.

It was a 51 plate.. And of course he could have blown me into the weeds at anytime had he wished to, so please don't anyone read the word race into this post we were both happy running along together, it was as I said a fast but safe drive on a motorway and it just amused me that the 911 driver was a bit surprised by the get up and go the ZT had.
We were passed at one point by a Bentley coupe that was traveling at way over the speed limit and had a number plate (MK3 I think) that could have bought the ZT and the 911 with change.
Cheers Ian

I owned Porsche's for 20 years.

A real drivers car and absolutely fantastic.

When I was younger I used to respond sometimes, when someone in a souped up something or other tried to show off.
Then I thought , what's the point. And I ignored them. My wife learnt to ignore them as well. That appeared to rattle them more.

I did get annoyed one time, and gave one idiot a bit of a run, knowing that there was a roundabout coming up. I can still see the fear on his face as he tried to stop.

Now my Porsche's days are gone :( and I have settled into my other favourite My 75 Connie.

Some people dislike Porsche's. They have probably never owned or driven one.

Some people dislike Rover/MG's. They have probably never owned or driven one.

In both cases they don't know what they are missing.
