GJ53 DGO
15th December 2013, 20:34
Edit:
Date for event is August 10th, arrival from 10am

Events on the day:
Royal British Legion Women’s Section Re-union, Service and Parade. Dakota / Devon engine starts.

The LMA (Large Model Association) will be holding an event on the runway but this is separate to the museum so a separate entry fee will be payable to see the show.

see link http://www.largemodelassociation.com/event/elvington-model-air-show/

Hi all

Just throwing this idea out there, I have a contact at Elvington Airfield/Yorkshire Air Museum near York. They are planning on a huge event in August 2014, running all the aircraft they have available and inviting a whole host of aircraft from other museums/collectors. I'm hopeful I can acquire a spot for us to hold a meet during the air show. I just need to know if anyone would be interested in attending and having a bit of a show of our own. I'm still awaiting details and will post up more as soon as I know. Please form an orderly queue and get your names down for a fantastic day, the more names we get down the better our chances.

Dave

From reading other posts regarding similar meets I ought to make everyone aware this isn't an official club meet so please DO NOT expect this to be covered by the club.

I've attended the last couple of meets that have been organised at this venue, which is superb. Elvington is situated just outside York and is very accessible. The last meet we held there attracted around forty five cars. A superb museum, cafe and other attractions.

I look forward to future updates.

The air show isn't guaranteed, it's only an idea they are mulling over atm. Hopefully after a few eggnogs over the Christmas season they will realise what a good idea it is and give it the go ahead, regardless of the air show though a meet could very easily be organised and like pab said, great facilities and a fantastic museum.

Hi,
could you put me down for this one too please. Depending on the date of course.
I am a newbie, only joined a couple of months ago. But have been to 2 meets so far in my yorkshire area meets. My first was the rotherham country park meet, which i turned up in my 1991 white 1275cc mini cooper. The second which i enjoyed was at the Reeds motel in Barton upon Humber, about a month ago.Organised by the MG club. Another great day. This time i turned up in my White gold Conny Turbo Diesel 75 Saloon.Met Pab & trikey who was at both meets & lots of other very friendly Club Members. I would just like to say, Thank you to you all for making me so wellcome. Also trikeys girl friend for the offer of tea & biscuits at Trikeys unit that sunday. All though i declined the offer, its nice to know that every body is made wellcome.
Re the elvington day. One of my hobbies is flying. I have a Microlight pilots licence. I fly a 2 seater Pegasus Q with a 447cc Rotax engine on the back.
I started learning to fly about 20 years ago. My aircraft is good for about 65mph, striaght & level. With about 4 hrs flying in between fill ups.Fuel burn is about 10 litres a hour.
Any way i wont bore you all any more, suffice to say. Rovers & Aircraft, does not get much better, Except Women of course. :icon_lol:

All are welcome, especially those who buy me a cake in the naafi!!
All added to the list. Shame you cant get the plane and the car to Elvington John, could have taken a few members for a quick flight around the area :icon_lol:

lexusjohn1954
3rd January 2014, 23:49
Hi all again.
Yes if i could have flown in to elvington, i would have gladly taken up some of the club members for a flight around the york area. The view of York Minster from the air is really something, having seen it myself while flying in the area.
I fly what is known as a flex wing or sometimes called a weight shift microlight.
Which means you dont have much body work around you. So you get a much better view, when your flying. All though for some people, it can be a bit unnerving when they can look striaght down at the ground, when they are 2000 ft up in the air. The aircraft to the novice can look very flimsy, but are stronger weight for weight than a jumbo jet. If any members get the chance, do try a trial flight, at a airfield local to them. Just google flex wing microlight flights. Probably cost wise between £50 & £70. Well worth it.:new_year:

A quick update, I've had an email back from Elvington...

Dave

Thank you for your enquiry, we would be pleased to see your club at our museum.

Dates in August we can not accommodate are - Sunday 3rd August and Monday 25th August, as we have other events that would not allow you the space.

There is a Woman's Royal British Legion day on Sunday 10th August that may suit. As there will be a small parade and hopefully our Dakota and Devon aircraft will run their engines.

If you go on our web site and download the group booking form, we can progress from there.

Group booking entails a reduced price for Car and Motorcycle clubs. The vehicles must be in display condition and parked in designated area for public display. The rate of £6 includes for the driver and one passenger. Any additional passengers will be charged at the normal group booking rate of £5. There is no parking on the grassed areas

Regards

Grant Sparks

I'll have a look through and make sure we get some dates that do not coincide with any other meets going on but without checking I think its a fairly open book, if anyone has any preferences please let me know and I will get on and book us in.

Hi everyone, I've finally heard back from Elvington with absolute conformation that we have a confirmed date of August 10th and that they can cater for all our needs, however they do require us to confirm numbers for the catering staff so if you can let me know if you will require hot food please let me know for how many asap. They do a fantastic Sunday lunch and very reasonable prices imho. The gate staff will also require names and registration numbers as I'm booking this so everyone pays on the gate, £6 per car including driver and one passenger with £5 per person for any additional passengers. As they have left it so late to respond to my emails please spread the word around each other to check this thread and let me know your details and if you require hot food.

It may be an idea for the OP to add the confirmation details to post 1 so new members finding the thread can see all info from the start then add their name to the list. Took me 10 minutes to find the date.

Should be a good one this, very good meet at Elvington last time.

Hi all, list amended and thank you for your support once again, Date and time of meet posted up in 1st post and Bainzi, the model aircraft show is separate to elvington so an additional fee is charged to attend that one, however it is only on the runway a few hundred yards from where we will be and can be accessed from the museum, I attended last year and it was very impressive with some fantastic models including a jet powered comet and Vulcan bomber.
