Heres the mondeo thats cost me dear, great motor and my passion for Ford is true and true, but the money was going down fast, Trying to repair and investigate the fault which turned nothing, took to a garage and they copuldn't find whats wrong with it either. :duh:

Took the parts of it and scrapped it, Great car but with a lot problems towards the end.

Here are few pics of the car and work done.

Tis what folk tell me about Fords in General once over 70k miles!
What faults did yours have?

The glow plug warning light came and flashes non stop. Changed glow plugs, pressure release valve, checked hoses for splits or leaks, inlet manifold removed and cleaned, EGR valve removed and cleaned, Intercooler checked.

No difference at all. Still ran bad, sometimes they need a solfwere upgrade for the injectors which has to be done by Ford, NOT CHEAP

It could have been a timimg issure, cold starting very bad, however engine warms up drives better but still on limp home mode and a DEATH TRAP.

Broke down quite a few times, worst of all at a round about. Not good, so i decided enough was a enough and killed it myself.

A lot of money gone as I wanted to save this, instead it took over my bank arcount.

Faults I think it could have been

Timing chain slipped, car not in sink with the engine
Injector pump, again has to be timeied spot on.
Diesel pump, not pumping enough fuel, so the injectors wasn't getting any pressure,
Injectors faulty.
Wiring loom for injectors faulty,
Air leak in fuel tank.

It could have been anything, The OBD in the garage couldn't read my ECU, again Fords had to do it, You know what main dealers are like.

Its a great car, but if not looked after propley then things go down the drain.

Had the car for 5 months and serviced 3 times. Even jacking the car up and checking the chassis, brake pipes, discs, pads and pretty much everything.

thats how I am with cars.

I too had a Mondeo Mk3 TDCi and it was the most modern car I've had at the time (3 years old) and also the most troublesome/expensive.

My first Ford in years, and certainly my last - I won't ever have another one. Loved the shape, roomy and practical, great combination of ride/handling...then it all goes downhill from there.

Injectors "forgetting" thier programming, dual mass flywheel, fuel pump rollers breaking up and wrecking the rest of the system, handbrake repeatedly seizing on, corrosion on the door bottoms...

I had it on finance over 2 years, and actually parked it up for the last 8 months until I could get rid of it - cheaper that way! A friend liked mine and bought one too and had even worse problems than mine! Thankfully we are still friends.

Ford of Europe have been struggling in recent years, and with apologies to any Ford employees reading this, they deserve all they get. That car nearly bankrupt me, and despite letters to them pointing out the low mileage/full history etc, Ford simply couldn't have cared less.

They might look nice on the surface, but they are rubbish where it actually matters.

I was in the same boat until recently. Had a 2004 MK3 Mondeo 1.8 petrol with 99000 on clock and can honestly say had nothing but trouble with it. Decided before Christmas wanted a complete change from Fords and wanted something British plus I love the shape of the 75 and big enough to tow my caravan.

Wont be going back to a Ford again.

Bought a Rover 75 1.8 Club SE low mileage 6 months Tax 12 Months MOT and 6 months warranty. Comes with service history as well and the trimming belt has been changed. I pick it up at the end of the week.

I switched from a 2000 Mk1 Focus 1.6 petrol which I took from 96k to 123k. Not a single problem, fantastic car. Prefer my ZT though :D

The Focus was named top car of the last 25 years from a magazine poll, wasn't it?

There are bad examples of every car and with the Mondeo being one of the highest selling cars of the last 10 years you will hear of hundreds of owners having problems, but put this figure against the total number of them on the road still going strong after 150k it will surely only be around 5%...?

The issue in my opinion, is that car manufacturers don't want to build a car that lasts any more. If their car doesn't break down or wear out, it's one less potential sale of a new car once the warranty runs out. If a manufacturer gets a car through its warranty period it's job done as far as they're concerned.

I once went in a Mk3 Mondeo that had covered well over 300k, I think as has been said consider the amount of them they sell you are bound to hear of a few people with problems.

I've been driving my '99 Cougar V6 for 2 months now and so far nothing has gone wrong, can't say the same for my ZT's :getmecoat:

Exactly, but it's a very short sited view, and it's how you deal with customers that decides how your customers view your company.

The Focus seems to age pretty well and be dependable. The Mk1/2 Mondeo were great cars, with a good reputation, but the Mk3 was a real step back in durability. The real problem is that Ford denied all liability - fuel pump failure was shown to be a manufacturing fault caused by insufficient case hardening of vital metal parts. Yet Ford in most cases refused to accept liability and expected owners to foot the bill for huge amounts.

Same with door corrosion, shown to be a fault in manufacturing. Now mistakes happen of course, so why not hold up your hands, apologise and rectify it, instead of of ignoring it?

It's you deal with problems that defines who you are.

I had MK2 v6 mondeo, great car. Then an 02 Focus diesel estate. A really good three years motoring and such fun to drive. The it was a MK 3 Mondeo diesel estate, nothing but trouble from day one, worse 12 months motoring I've had in a long time. A neighbour bought a Mk3 Mondeo diesel at the same time as mine and it's never missed a beat and he still has it. A common fault for loss of power and the flashing light was a weakness in the turbo actuator. Wouldn't swap my 75 for any of them.

Another previous mk3 owner here. Loved it, tdci 130. It was quick, comfy and great to drive until the doors started to go rusty & the dmf started to fail. I got rid before it cost me a fortune.

My pal has until last year always driven Fords. His last car was a 99 Mondeo Zetec.
The car never missed a beat over his 13 years of ownership but the bodywork was awful towards the end.
Interestingly he replaced it last year with a BMW 320d - he hates it:duh:

My family are/were quite big ford fans. Dad had loads when we were growing up, only caused any problems, an Auto g/box went bang. SiL just got rid of a Mk1 focus put 70k on it and only changed the coil packs. I had two before the ZT they were good, I'd have another tomorrow.
