View Full Version : Glasgow Transport Museum Meet 2nd March 2pm

FrazzleTC
12th February 2014, 12:20
Following on from the proposed meet thread on the 2nd of March, it's been decided that we'll meet at the Riverside Museum, in Glasgow, on the 2nd, at 2pm. I'll be there from 1pm onwards. At the moment, we'll meet in the main car park, but I'm in contact with the museum, to see if we can park in front of the museum, should that be preferred by the members?

Now, in terms of those who will be attending, I've got the following names;

FrazzleTC
Simondi
Mastiff2
Yella Fella
BuzzardJohn
AldoR
Keithybhoy (possibly)
JT234ADR
Buster11e
Tim Burgess (possibly)
FLYER
auldsmokymg13
jimbo51 (possibly)
GraemeKinghorn
PBD
Alan G
Parahandy
Jim Jamieson
Flyer
Liaison (possible)
David5000 (possible)

If anyone else is hoping to come, do pop your name on the thread, and if anyone has any questions, or queries, just post up on the thread, and I'll do my best to help.
A little bit about the museum itself:
The Riverside Museum houses a large collection of vehicles, and associated artefacts from Glasgow's own collection. There are many interactive displays, a large number of cars, trains, trams, and so on, to keep everyone interested. There is also a fantastic replica of a street, from the 1930s, with superb levels of attention to detail. Just outside the museum is the tall ship, which is open to visitors as well.
Entry to the museum is entirely free, and parking rates are very reasonable. The entry to the ship is also free, though guides, etc, are all available, for a fee.
There are two cafes in the museum, one upstairs, one downstairs, where members can stop for a late lunch, or an afternoon snack. There is full disabled access for all, as well.
Hopefully everyone will enjoy the meet, and have an opportunity to have a look around each other's cars, have a chat, and enjoy the Riverside Museum.

The address is:
Riverside Museum
100 Pointhouse Place,
Glasgow,
G3 8RS

Any questions, or if you're keen to attend, please just post!

So . . . maybe about 20 car on Sunday :}

Fraser, are we in the car park or at the entrance?

FrazzleTC
28th February 2014, 12:53
Looks like we could have as many as 20.
I was given the option of displaying them outside the entrance, but thought that since people will probably be coming and going at different times, we'd be as well in the car park. They can't rope off parking, but say we should find spaces pretty easily. Parking is very reasonable for four hours. Do you think we'd have been better at the entrance? If so, I can PM you the number of the lady to contact.

Before meeting up I noticed the helipad next to the Riverside Museum was full of choppers, well three of them so I headed to take a few pics.

For info, Bond Helicopters are building a new heliport across the Clyde beside the Thales factory, it's going to give them quite a bit more space.

I enjoyed the day out except the rain.

A bit of a mix up with road directions when leaving though !!

I thought I was leading onto the M8 and just followed the two 75's in front.
But in actual fact we were all travelling up a one way street    the wrong way :o

As soon as I had turned right I noticed the arrows on the road pointing towards me and thought Oh! have they just changed priorities then realised oh! we are all going the wrong way.

We got some odd looks and someone even peeped their horn, how dare they we are respectable 75 drivers.

All turned out in the end though with no blue lights.

The junction when leaving the museum is shocking. I was thinking that as I was sitting st the lights. A mistake at this junction is easy.

Thanks to everyone for coming along! I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout, and it was great to see such a wide variety of 75s, and ZTs there today! I really enjoyed chatting to as many members as I could, but apologies to those that I missed!
Unfortunately, the weather turned against us, particularly as the afternoon progressed, but thankfully there was plenty to see in the museum, and a decent cafe to enjoy!
Perhaps we can add this to the calendar as an annual meet, if people would be interested? Ideally, we'd have the cars on the front, outside the museum, in future.
I only got a few photos, and they're not great, but I will upload them as soon as photobucket starts to behave!

Just an update on this car park, I was back up on Saturday and used this car park while attending at the SECC.

The whole of the second half i.e. the rough bit which we were in was all cordoned off and looks like they're laying mono block.

It was causing mayhem as to exit you had to go against the in flow to get to the exit. The overflow car park was also jammed full.

I managed to get onto the motorway this time without breaking the law
