View Full Version : The Fifth Anglo-Scottish Meet: 20th July 2014

FrazzleTC
10th March 2014, 21:46
The popularity of the Anglo-Scottish meet has surpassed all expectations in previous years, so, why change a winning formula! As such, I'm delighted to announce that we shall be holding the fifth annual meet, at Gretna, where we we hope to exceed the exceptional number of attendees that the event experienced last year!
The location is the Old Blacksmith's Shop, at Gretna Green, where we will have access to the grass parking area, which is usually allocated to caravans.
We shall be erecting a gazebo, and flags to show our presence, as ever.

As such, it is my pleasure to announce that the fifth 'Anglo-Scottish Meet' will be taking place at 12:00, on the Sunday, the 20th of July!

This is the second year that the 'Tam Leek (Rotrex) Memorial Trophy' will be presented to the best-presented car, as voted for by you all, so, get the polish out, and see what you can do! However, absolutely all 75s, and ZTs are very welcome, and we'd love to welcome members, both old and new!

The postcode for the meet is DG16 5EA

Great memories indeed. My 1 and only meet where I can look at the photos and see my brother who died 1 year ago and wee Tam who I had the pleasure of meeting. Incidentally, we arrived at Gretna and Graham in his V6 complained that he was showing 19MPG and wee Tam said he broke into tears when we turned off for Gretna and his dropped below 55 MPG, priceless memories. Not to forget JIMBO's 75 V8, awesome.

Hi.
Although I am coming down I can't stay till the end. Our daughter in law is unwell and is in Crosshouse Maternity unit. She had a terrible pregnancy with her first and this time seems to be worse, not only that my friend from Newcastle is heading here on Saturday with a T4 van my gaffer is buying, so I have to take him to Gretna on Sunday for a lift back with Richard who has kindly offered to oblige,
I'll stay for an hour or two at the most.
I wont join the convoy this time though, we will make our own way down.

Hi.
A change of plan for me I'm afraid. Munroman has offered to take my mate to Gretna as my Daughter in law isn't brilliant, my son is working (he owns a shop) and asked if I could be on standby for emergencies. Richard kindly will be taking my mate (David) to Newcastle.
He will fit in well being a car chappie, Rover fan & ex TV Engineer.

:(So done, Sir!

Looking like it'll be a record turnout! :)

Alas I will not make it. We were intending stopping off on way home from my son's in Lincolnshire however we have had to return a couple of days early.
While we were away Wendy's mum had a fall/ feint and ended up in hospital overnight. She is ok but we had to come home.
We are getting pretty concerned over her. Very forgetful and initially didn't remember being in hospital. Great worry for Wendy. Her mum is 83 and still pretty fit, playing golf etc but this has all come on pretty quickly. Unfortunately we lost her dad quite a few years ago so she lives alone in their large house.
Not sure what we need to or are going to do . :o

I am sure lots of us have had similar experiences but it is first for us with our parents. My gran was like this over last two years but she was 99! It is just surprising how this has progressed quickly in someone so fit.

Anyway, I am sure you will all have a great time. Have a great day.

Sorry you can't make it tomorrow Chris and so sorry to hear about Wendy's Mum. I went through this with both parents for nearly 9 years. Dad had Dementia and Mum had a "bargain bundle" of Lung Cancer, Osteoporosis and Clinical Depression. I really can sympathise.

Had an excellent day, thanks to all who turned out and made this possible, didn't speak to as many people as I'd have liked, first time I'd ever been to Gretna so wanted to explore a little.

Had a decent munch in the restaurant and a nice tour of the blacksmith shop. Fantastic to finally see Aldo's car in the flesh, the grille is wonderfully done, well deserved on winning the award.

Missed last years because of the weather but was glad I risked it this year, the weather turned out to be wonderful! Glad to be back at an event after my recent break from the scene (unfortunately due to the terminal illness and death of my father).

I am so annoyed I couldn't make it today.

I had been planning a sneak visit for weeks, I was even thinking about it whilst I was on holiday recently.

Then I get a phone call that my niece's birthday party is today and I have to be in Edinburgh at 1:00pm.

It looked like a cracking day too. I will hopefully make it next year and good to see this meet getting even bigger!!

Congratulations to Fraser and Glenn, for the organisation, and to Aldo for the win.

Hi Fellas.
I must offer a big thank you to Derek & Richard for transporting David from my house in Kilmarnock to Winlaton.
I was on standby for my Daughter-in-law, fortunately she was OK on the day but is back in hospital again and could be in for another week. I also was able to repair by daughters sump on her beetle as the new one didn't fit, then take her for a driving lesson.
I'm miffed though I missed the meet as it looks fantastic so here's hoping for next year.
