Have a search in the HowTo forum, I made a compilation on how to change Burners.

something tells me the bulb isn't H7?

I've looked at the how to s but didn't see one for the HID versions

Look at the back of the lamp unit, if you see a square alloy box, this is the ballast, so Xenon.

Two rubber dust covers, H7 bulb.

H7 bulbs aren't Xenon - there's often confusion between Xenon lights and halogen projectors.
They both appear the same externally (apart from 'Xenon' written next to the lens on some), but Xenons use D2S burners instead of bulbs - these: http://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/car-bulbs/products/rover-75-mg-zt-d2s-xenon-burners-pair-4300k-6000k-replaces-xbi000040

The projectors without Xenon do use H7 bulbs (at least in the Mk1 they do).
