Between the M47 engine, and the 204D2? My reason for asking is I need an engine for my facelift tourer 135. My previous 75 was a 116 remapped to 160. Will an earlier engine be a suitable replacement? The ecu 160 remap has already been done on the facelift as well.

Phil, if you're determined to change your engine then I strongly recommend that you err on the side of extreme caution and replace it with exactly the same type. Anything else comes with the risk of problems which will be very difficult to solve with any degree of certainty.

However, as I have said in your earlier thread, I am not convinced that you have head gasket failure on your diesel. Even if I'm wrong and you have, I have to say that changing the entire engine is not, in my view, the way to tackle it.

The 204D2 is the M47R, and the only engine used in the production run of the car whether that be the cars upto 4D model year, or beyond.

There weren't any 204D3 engines used ever in the R40 range, these were only used in the 2004-2006 model year TD4 Freelander.

So in short, anything from 1999 to 2005 will suit your car, and no modification to the DDE4 ;)

Hope this helps
