75 1.8 Club se t - steering height adjustment won't lock.

As above.

Before I go and start pulling bits apart can anyone offer any advice on this job?

THe pull down lever opens and closes but in the locked position the steering column can still be moved up and down. It's not horrific but it needs attention.

Remove the lower cover from the steering column, you'll see the locking mechanism, simply tighten the nut and bolt on it.
