View Full Version : Water in boot recess of Tourer and gate stuck - help

Hi folks. My pre-facelift 2003 75 Conn SE Tourer is in great nick. But I have two problems that I am hoping have come up before and won't be costly to fix - I have just spent over £1k on satnav audio.

ONE - The carpet is damp in the left side recess, on the floor of the cargo area at the back. Actually it is wet. I don't think any water is dripping down from above. Could it be water thrown up from the rear nearside wheel? Dunno. It gets worse when it rains (I know this is probably obvious - sorry).

TWO - I closed the tailgate on a piece of clothing for a jumble sale. It wouldn't open. I pulled the cloth out from between the rubber closings but the tailgate still won't open. I have messed around arming and unarming the remote locking and alarm, and the inside locking switch. Nope. Good job 75s have an opening window.

ANY CLUES VERY GRATEFULLY RECEIVED FROM EXPERIENCED 75/ZT DRIVERS.

You could have water coming in through light seals or chrome body trim.

Wont be the light seals, on a tourer.

As far as opening the tailgate, try pulling the release tag on the inside of the tailgate.
Tourers leak water through the waist trims, the vents behind the bumper, the sunroof drains (if you've got one) the sharks fin aerial (again if you've got one) & the rear window

There's a vent in the side panel, which you can get to either behind the interior panel, or taking the rear bumper off. I had same problem, sealed around the vent, no more water inside.

I'd hoped it would be as even I could replace those. Panels? Vents? Bumper off? Damn.

Your advice re the emergency tailgate release works. But the same problem arises when I re-lock it. My wife is beginning to complain about having to climb into the back every time we need to get the gate open (joke). Tried arming rearming etc. Nope. Any clues my friend?
