I went for one of these:
http://www.automotechservices.co.uk/products/as-5500-2-5-tonne-scissor-lift/
And it seems to be really rather good, see attached picture
Only "issue" is height of garage roof limits the hieght I can use the lift for....
The spitfire is fantastic, but a picasso is next to no lift, due to the cars height
Worth checking before you spend your cash :)

Hi Chris
I did look at those type initially and as usual budget and spec kept creeping up until I arrived at the scissor lift in my initial link! LOL
How stable does it feel? Just wondering as the Bradbury scissor lift I looked at the other day was very, very solid. (see below)

Hi Jeff,
I certainly feel that the lift I have got is very stable. Never had any worries with it. (only slight disadvantage with the type I have got is for cars with a narrow wheel base - I have a triumph spitfire and it is a "bit tight" going on, but I suspect the type you linked to can be moved in and out.
Also my spitfire is a bit low, and only just clears height wise too. But for the Rover the ramp is fine.
