My diesel fuel cooler thermostat is leaking and I have potentially got a replacement lined up, but I'm not happy dribbling diesel all over the road, so am hoping to stem the flow a bit.

Does anyone have a decent photo of how the thermostat goes together?

I can see a number of what look like rusty bolts through it, but cant be sure.

If anyone has and old leaky one lying around, could you possibly take some good photos for me to better understand it.

This is the only photo I took when I swapped mine David.

I'll see if I can dig it out tonight after work and get a better shot of it.

Thanks Mike. There are a bewildering collection of pipes therewhich your photo makes clear. I had assumed one came from the engine, one out to the tank, and one out from the cooler to the tank. The fourth pipe has me confused. Does anyone have a technical diagram of how all this works. rave has the post 2005 model as only 2 pipes, so i assume they just cut out the thermostat, but that doesnt explain what happened to the other pipe?

I sketched one here when I changed mine which does show the tape colour coding around the pipes, if that helps:

hi arctic, that is helpful thanks. My temporary plan is to bypass the thermostat by joining the returning hot fuel direct to the cooler, and just block off the other one. All i need to do now is find a suitable joining connector. Ive measured the pipe to be about 8mm. Then i can get the thermostat out and see if i can fix its leak.

My thermostat was also leaking, I have bypassed it for now using a 8mm Tee piece from Parkers motor factors for 3 quid. the rusty bolts are the remains of the bracket that holds it to the car,
Has any body any ideas where to source a replacement ? Rimmers can only supply the complete assembly for 400 quidish. Our local Rover MG dealer did not even know what I was talking about on the phone.
Also would it matter if it was leaft permanantly bypassed ? I presume the fuel now is being "overcooled", but after 30 mins running there is warmth felt at the cooler and relevant hoses.
