View Full Version : Carter Bar 2015 26th of April

RPWC
12th January 2015, 22:36
EHaving spoken with Flyer behind the scenes, the plan is to look at the long term weather forecast for late March sometime in February. If it's going to be reasonably mild,we'll go for end of March,if it's still freezation, then it will take place late April,as I hope to attend the first Matrocentre meet of the year. Following the passing of Graham's brother Ian,(Brush1), the meet will now be known as The Tam and Ian Carter Bar Memorial run.
Date set Sun26th April, meet at the border stone ,northbound around noon.
For the English contingent ,meet here around 10.30 to leave at 10.45. Location is just outside of warmseal windows factory and showroom

When I saw the name Carter Bar, it brought back all sorts of memories of driving over the top with dad in his Ford V8 truck, back in the fifties. I could literally see him sweating (even in the depths of winter) until we got over the summit with a load on. :duh: No heater, no power steering, rubbish brakes. The flask used to be well used on those trips!

Many thanks to all who came today, and to Steve for bringing the pump,to Brian for giving me a different car to drive home:drool4:.the weather was reasonably kind to us,dry but a bitterly cold wind. A canny trip up to the border - Richard is now very familiar wth the back of horseboxes  - and we got a good send off from the hailstones.
Got home about 4.30, just had the one remaining pie (chicken and vegetable) for tea - I'm sure Anne Marie will enjoy her pie George ;)

Enjoyed the few hours up at Carters Bar, the drive up was through some lovely scenery, and the group remained convoy disciple very well, and was even better once we passed the horse boxes

On way back drove back down the A68, all the way to Bishop Auckland, then back home at around 1600 hrs

Was nice to meet the boys from the North, who brought the varied weather with them, but had a lovely sunny drive back home

Thanks to all

Back home for 3.00,had a great day, nice to catch up with George,Graham and Steve, and meet Tam.
Many thanks to all who came today, and to Steve for bringing the pump,to Brian for giving me a different car to drive home:drool4:.the weather was reasonably kind to us,dry but a bitterly cold wind. Thanks to Rod for the delicious pies:drool4:, stayed until 2,then started belting down with hailstones and snow,so we all decided it was time to head home.didn't take many pics,as others did,but here's a fewhttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0007_zpsh2ksem93.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0007_zpsh2ksem93.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0017_zpsbviih40d.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0017_zpsbviih40d.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0016_zpstcmlqiei.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0016_zpstcmlqiei.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0014_zpsa5uppqxb.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0014_zpsa5uppqxb.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0010_zpsnwbciyto.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0010_zpsnwbciyto.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0011_zpsefpzejhr.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0011_zpsefpzejhr.jpg.html)http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l510/RPWC/SAM_0012_zpslza9u7q6.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/RPWC/media/SAM_0012_zpslza9u7q6.jpg.html)

Brilliant photography capturing the atmosphere, the drama of the inclement weather and the characters having a great time of it - the usual suspects ;)
